Mustang dyno vs. Dynojet and Open-source vs. Cobb Tune
Mustang dyno vs. Dynojet and Open-source vs. Cobb Tune
For me, the two go hand in hand. I currently have a Cobb custom tune, but lately I've had problems with them so I'm contemplating an open-source tune. My only holdback is the number difference between the two dynos. How much higher does a Dynojet typically run? What are the pros and cons of an open-source? Thanks for the help.
Dyno Jet tends to read about 12-15% higher than a mustang dyno. As far as the tune I would get an AP because its just a good thing to have its very user friendly and easy to use. You can have a few different tunes on the AP lets say 1 for 93 octane gas and 1 for E85 and change them on the fly. Its an overall easy thing to use and you can read ecu codes and in my opinion its a great tool. Hope this helped.
~15% as stated above. Difficult to make a direct comparison among dynos unless the power difference due to mods is ~10% or greater. Temperature and humidity also have a significant impact on the read on a given day. I suggest you baseline with VD as well, and use it to compare after mods/tune under very close road and atmospheric conditions. It will give you one more data point.
Personally I think the AP is a waste of money, when the money you spend on that could be used for a real tune. So open source all day long for me. Not only that with COBB, you're limited to what mods you can do and to COBB products...which I don't like.
What problems are you having? Have you gone in to Cobb - Plano to discuss it with then and find a resolution? Calvin up there is a very good Evo X tuner and I've been impressed with his work on my car. My power and reliability speaks for itself in my book.
The actual process of getting a custom tune with the AccessPort or ECUFlash is nearly identical; any differences will really come down to the quality and proficiency of the tuner himself.

Limited on mods? Where did you get this information?
