Price Check on Evo X and IX

This would be me coming from an RSX>S2000>Tacoma Lifted then evo x. or ix.

2010 Evo X GSR
Red. 30k Miles
Clean Title
$24,000 stock
$27,000 mods.

Mods include
AMS front mount intercooler
AMS Upper Intercooler Piping
AEM Intake
Perrin Silicone Inlet
AMS Fuel Rail
W 1300 CC Inj
MAP Open Dump Downpipe W/ Brand New Gaskets
MAP Fuel Pump Install Kit
RAWEVO Triple Pod Pillar
Depo Digital Boost and Oil Pressure Gauges
HKS Exhaust

I asked him $25,000 with mods but he declined. Can someone shed some light on this? Keep in mind I live in Hawaii and there are about 0 evo's for sale. I am also going to Korea in a year so this car will be in storage for that time. Id rather buy now and have it paid off by the time im back from Korea instead of waiting. I asked my wife what she thinks of the evo and she says as long as I like it shes happy.

Theres also a 2006 Evo IX for $24,000 at a dealer ship.
56k Miles. Rally Red. GSR
Unknown mods.
Exterior looks so amazing. I wish the X had this red color.

I'd put money away, then when you get back from Korea, buy a great car cash and drive away in it. That way you will also have the opportunity to buy a newer model, as the 2011 on up have the revised timing chain. 08 - 10 were prone to stretching.

Since you can't drive it anyway, just put the money away you were going to put towards 'payments' and you'll have a better, newer car, for the same or less money.

Good luck with your decision and your work overseas!!

No, I will drive it for a year I leave July 2015. So I will have time to drive it. Meanwhile it will be in storage for a year starting on July 2015-2016.

Yes I also thought of just saving my money. I put about 500$ in TSP (retirement) a month and about 1k a month in Gold/Silver. Im only an E-4. I just wish I still had my s2k. Tacomas are boring to drive (double cab 4x4 ext bed TRD Sport, lifted 4 inches). However Its extremely roomy and the AC and stereo are amazing.
Thanks for your comment.

I dunno, you bump around in the truck for a year, then buy when you get back and you get a 2012+ or so EVO X which has the revised timing chain etc.. I'd wait!

The 2008 - 2010 EVO had a timing chain that was prone to stretching. You would be advised to replace the one that comes with the car, depending on year, asap. This is to prevent an issue if the timing chain has an issue and impacts the motor. Also just think based on your description, that you could sock away a lot of cash if you just stick with the truck for a few months, then get your dream car when you get home.

Whatever you decide good luck and enjoy!

I agree with Napalm. Wait until you get back and pocket all the money you will make over seas. In the end you will have a bigger pool of cars to pick from.

I was in your shoes a few years ago. When it was time for me to PCS to Korea, I sold my car. You can't drive in Korea anyway unless you're an E7 and above. Unless you bring your family with you to Korea. Then you would serve in Korea for 2 years instead of 1. I'm assuming you're Army and not another branch.

In any case, I PCS'ed back to the states and got my Evo!

Do you know if military will store your car for free? When your in korea? If your wife doesnt live with you? Im Air Force.

Also did some numbers
Tacoma - 16k Left 400 a month - 3600 pmnts. = 12400 left on loan when PCS [Sell for 15-16k]
+3k pocket

Evo - 24,000 - 1,000 down = 23000 - 3600 pmnts = 19400 left on loan when PCS

My pay will be about 5-6k a month. Hawaii BAH = 2600 married. as E-4
Car will be paid off when I get back.

If i do just sell my tacoma when I PCS i will probably just get a wrx hatchback when i come back.

Since you're AF, disregard everything I said. It can't, won't, may not apply. In any case, talk to your leadership. Ask them about the POV deployment storage lot. On some bases there's a parking lot for deploying service members. That type is free. I know because I used to work at one. But I'd say call your base operator and ask for the POV storage lot's number. If there is one.

Since you have a year to drive it and can pay it off while you're gone I say go ahead and get the X. $24,000 is a lot for a IX and 26-27k for a car with full bolt-ons isn't a bad deal. Look up 808evo if you want to know more about Evo's

Thanks Apollo. Kbay? lol that is the best drive on island H3. That tunnel is op! took my s2k down there so many times. drove from hickam to kbay just for that tunnel. I almost spun out one time because it was all sunny south side. then right after that tunnel its a storm. Lost control for a little but luckly i didnt hit anything. Scary stuff.

Spend the extra money and get a 2015 virgin. IMO. Don't RUSH into something you'll regret later.!!!

save your money, the car will depreciate while in storage... When I was in Pendelton, I seen to many guys buy cars they couldn't afford or have in storage for years(buying before deployment). I just don't get it....I drove a civic for 12 yrs, didn't give a ****, loved my time in the Corp and couldn't care less about buying a car it just didn't make sense to me. Yes I did get some temptation every year when the new cars came out. But a good workout or long deployment always knocked some sense in to me.....But yeah if you really want it go for it...
