It took mitsu 2 weeks to fix my timing chain...

Took my 08 in a couple of weeks ago for the recall. They made me wait 2 weeks for the appointment due to parts.

Final note.
If you have to get a tow due to the failure. Make sure you get the tow reimbursement WHEN YOU PICK UP THE CAR. Don't let them just give you a number. When I called Mitsu, they said the dealer was supposed to do it at the time of pickup (even though I specifically asked when I did pick up the car). Now I get to wait for a week or two for their email support to "Get the paperwork ready" to get reimbursed if its "Even possible".

not applicable to all 2011...

Brought my 2011 to local Mitsubishi dealer and was told by them this particular recall does not apply. Reckon, sometime during the 2011 production year, this issue was mitigated.

Got mine taken care the day after I received the letter about it. Luckily I was one of the first few that showed up and they had enough parts to get mine done. When I went to pick up the car when they were finished, there was a total of 14 other evos that were at the dealership waiting to get theirs done, only to find out the service department only had enough parts for 6 cars. A lot of angry owners that day. As stated before by other people, if you haven't had this recall performed yet, make the appointment and get it taken care of. Best of luck everything works out OP.

got mine done on a 2011 within 2 weeks of the notice. I had to wait all day for them to get the parts and get it done though. Glad that didn't happen to me. Good luck man, hopefully everything gets sorted out.

Hum... I'm at 113k miles in my 08 with the original belt and pulleys. I really should replace the belt anyway (been lazy). I guess I'll let the dealer do it for free. Probably should order a new timing chain now (though I haven't had any stretch issues yet - or no lights at least).

Exact same thing just happened to me today on my 2008 Evo.

I was driving to a site at work and first I hear what sounds like rocks being kicked up in the right front wheel well. I thought nothing of this as it is winter and there are rocks EVERYWHERE. But about 10sec after that my battery light pops on. I have needed a new battery for a while and I thought it finally gave out but little did I know that was only the beginning.
I was on a long straight of highway at the time so while my battery was dying I was trying to turn off everything I could, headlights, stereo ect. to try and limp back to the office. Meanwhile a slew of CELs were going off. I think literally every single one that the car has was rambling off. I tried to find a pull off to stop as soon as I could but its a pretty rural area and there was snow packed to the very edge of the road so If I stop, its in the middle of the one lane highway. There was a slight bend in the road and that's when I realized my power steering was gone and also realized it was my serpentine belt. After only about 1.5mi from the battery warning, I saw a turn off ahead and figured I would turn off there. Finally my battery said NO MORE! and I lost power and stalled. I only barely made it to the turn off but at least I wasn't in the road.

I figured it was the serpentine belt, but I failed to remember the other systems that are attached other than alternator and Power steering. I think it may have gotten a little hot. My coolant was already low but when I popped the hood there was none in the res.
I called road side service and got it flatbeded to Mitsu where I wait to hear back this morning on if it qualifies for the recall and I can get this tow bill covered.

I had the exact same noise under front left of car when driving, just as this fellow had. The only difference was that after a 1/4 mile my overheating light came on as well since the water pump quit turning. I was only about 1 mile from work on the highway, running late, so I pushed it coasting as much as I could. Got to work and no steam from under hood or anything when i parked, but lost power steering, battery light came on, although my lights stayed on thankfully since it was 5am and dark, and as I said, high temp light. Hopefully its a quick fix. Its 2023 now though and im sure ill get no help from mitsubishi.

I know it probably wasn't smart to push it another 3/4 mile after the temp light came on, but I made my decision and I can only pray I didn't do damage. Was still running smooth as I parked it.

The water pump is probably the most important thing driven by that belt.
