My girl talked me into keeping the Evo.

she basically told me that I shouldn't get another car because I'd be looking for another Evo in a bout a year.

I guess she's right considering this is my third Evo.

She had to lay the law down laughing out loud. I've noticed with evo, at least in my situation. You end up getting tired of them because they are pretty raw, and then after a while really miss it again and need your fix, hence people selling and coming back. Seems like the best solution is to have a regular car alongside the evo.

Ive always owned BMWs and still have an E 46 M3 track car. Just got my first EVO and am loving it sofar.. love the raw connected feeling. Had to mod the hell out of the BMW to make it feel connected. My buddy has a 135i with a cobb tune and its fast as hell and has much better fit and finish than the evo but that is secondary to me. The BMW has better balance and handles beautifully but most do not have an LSD which sucks big time. A customer diff can be expensive and is a pain in the ***** to install. See if you can test drive one before you pull the trigger. New M2 coming out in the next 3-6 months should be legit though.

Thinking of making the exact same change, can anyone tell me if the 135 can match the Evo around a track at all

I have experience with the 335i(N54 engine), evo 8 and evo 10. I absolutely love and prefer the evos, but I will go about this in an unbiased way.

The 335i, simply put is more of a luxury sedan with performance included, while the evos are performance first, nothing second. The bmw is very balanced feeling, which is the case with basically every bmw made. The powerband is gorgeous, it has power everywhere thanks to an inline 6 and twin turbos. The brakes feel overly strong, and before you say "thats great!"..No, I mean as in they are completely ON-OFF, they are not progressive at all really.

The evo on the other hand has tons more grip, which is to be expected. The brake feel is outstanding and easy to modulate. We all know evo engines have tons of potential so need in mentioning that. I feel the N54 is a solid competitor, though, and theyre are guys making great power.

Me, personally, I prefer the evos. I love the grip and confidence they inspire. I love the quick directional changes and crisp handling/response overall. I feel the Evos give a lot more feedback and are a much more involving experience. I am convinced a well setup 335i can absolutely slaughter an equally setup evo if the driver is up to par. Pretty much comes down to AWD vs RWD in this scenario and is a preference thing.

Coworkers M 135 is perpetually in the shop, I'd pass on contemplating the change unless you like driving a rental imo.

Evos love to be in the shop as well, so that kind of makes it a wash between the two in that category.

Hasn't been my impression outside of people breaking their cars with poorly tuned for mods?

Agreed. My IX is the single most reliable car I've owned in 30+ years behind the wheel, but, then, I didn't fruck it up with useless aftermarket parts that I installed without knowing WTF I was doing, nor was it purchased as a used POS.

Mine hasnt given me an issue and I bought it high mileage, before selling and just purchasing my X. I dont know if its the fact that evos are cars people feel the need to push the limit or that they are just finicky, but you hear a lot of people who are always having them in the shop.

evo is an extremely reliable performance car. it is not a IX only related thing... I never had problem with My X's only the CMC in my 08, but i had a heavy duty ACT clutch in it .
other then that rock solid both.

it is more of the user mistake then a car fault usually

Fail..None of those are real issues. I was new to evos, therefore had a lot of newb questions..as in being paranoid about everything..again, I never had any issues with mine apart from radiator giving out at 105k miles.
