normal to hear grinding noise during slip on MR?

i'm sliding and doing donuts in an empty parking lot full of snow.

when the car is losing traction (mid slide), the info screen flashes yellow and i can hear some grinding/mechanical noises coming from underneath me. i assume it's the differential? this is normal right?

i think it would be a safe bet that grinding is never a good noise. I was also doing that once and was really gettin it and started to hear a bit of a huming or mechanical noise from the rear and decieded welp im not doing that ne more. That was 20k miles ago and so far so good.

Try with traction control off and see if the noise is there?

ok, so with ASC fully on, it's supposed to make a noise right?

Its normal .When asc fully on noise occurs only on slips.sounds kinda like abs brakes. It wont happen when asc is off."If u drive and still hear grinds its not normal.

i don't think so. abs usually rumbles on the brake pedal no? i don't feel anything on the pedal. it sounds like metal scrapping it's starting to happen on quick turns now. no slipping. but only when it's really cold outside and within the first 5-10 min.

weird!

AYC activating was my first thought too. I don't think you'll feel AYC kicking in on the pedals cuz it only happens on the rear wheels.

It could also be the wheel hub if it has some play in it. I had a metal grinding noise from my front driver side wheel. It took me a while to figure out that the wheel hub is a bit loose. It was happening intermittently and when I brake hard, it would go away.
