Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
I guess we won't get the full spec X in the US just like we don't the full spec Evos now. For this very reason.
Nobody wants to pay for the equipment.
regardless I still think the $40,000 for an evo is still a bargain.
I definitely think that Mitsu needs to offer 2 options
One with the paddle shifting gearbox
and the other full 6 speed manual.
Only time will tell.
Personally I would like the IX with the S-AWC test equipment as shown in the Video.

uhh Why did Subaru and Mitsubishi both change their front ends so much when the current ones are fine? I mean, I don't think the new Eclipse is doing as good as they thought it would and after all that advertising. Blah, i don't know anything.

The most I would be willing to pay for an Evo is 35k. After that you start getting into some interesting choices for cars.
I don't know its just what it seems like to me, maybe its a location thing. Lets get someone who knows to tell us. haha but ya i don't like that front end as much as the previous pictures
Not too fired up about a Dodge / Mitsu JV chassis. IMO the Evo is supposed to be hard edged and raw, this X seems to get away from the things that made the Evo famous in the hopes it sells more cars Im sure.
Im confident the VIII-IX will retain nice values when the X is launched.

I would not mind the paddle shifting, but I am going to miss the good ol' clutch. I really don't care for the outside of the car because it has no roots to the evo's history.

Evo edification
Lovers of the true manual gearbox—you know, the one with a clutch pedal that you actually push with your foot—will be happy to hear that a five-speed close-ratio manual transmission will be offered on Mitsubishi’s 2007 Evolution X. Our cover story (Oct. 24) spoke only of the six-speed auto/manual gearbox (dubbed Automatic Direct Select Gear, or DSG) on the Evo X concept shown at the Tokyo motor show in October, prompting an AutoWeek reader’s anguished letter (Nov.14) decrying Mitsubishi’s failure to offer a true manual tranny.
Not so, Mitsubishi officials assure us: The next Evo will come with either the DSG or the five-speed manual.
The emergency is over. Please go back to your rooms.

You guys need to stop jumping on every rumor or article and and taking it as written in stone. They could easliy put a 6 speed in the car and may very well do it as an option. I don't think there's anything lame about a 5 speed manual tranny.

1) Makes sense to include it (for performance reasons)
2) Has become low-cost enough that it can be included and still keep the car affordable
The EVO has always been based on rally roots and adding this brings it one step closer to the highest ranks of rally.
(Although some might argue that the X may end up being further away from the WRC car than ever -- we'll just have to see)
These so-called enthusiasts need to quit getting their panties in a wad about such a thing. I already know too many people who buy manual transmission cars just because they think it makes the rest of the world think they are "skilled" behind the wheel of a car. In reality it just impresses the rest of the so-called enthusiasts.

I am willing to bet that not 10% of people buy a manual to "impress" people. After owning an auto SS Camaro, I can tell you, the automatic should not even be an option (just like it isn't on the Cobras) And I think the slapstick/sportstronic trannys are a joke to manually controlling the car. I am not even sure I like the paddles on the Enzo.
Me personally don't like the idea of not stepping on the clutch and shift. I don't care if you could change the gear faster with paddles shifter, but It just takes the Fun out of driving a car. Once in awhile I get to drive an auto, It just seems so bold and boring. I just missed the feeling of heel and toeing approaching on a corner.
