off topic, but what the hell was Subaru smikong when they designed the exterior of the new STI !!?? I saw one and it clearly has "looks only a mother can love." I think it is so bad I would think twice before being seen driving one!
^Hah, that's pretty funny. It sticks out like a sore thumb, that is, it literally looks like a sore thumb. Hehehe. Maybe it has something to do w/Subaru working w/Toyota?

well, both Mitsu and Sub wanted to appeal to a wider audience. the only thing is, Mitsu was the one who pulled it off. so now, not only enthusiasts, but perhaps more regular joes and janes will like the new Evo look and buy the car. with subaru, more joes/janes might find it appealing, but enthusiasts are puking at the very sight of the thing. it's a shame really, because that STI is an amazing machine.
the only big problem now is that the evo is noticeably more expensive. that means fewer younger/lower income people will own it. hopefully the thing will still sell and help Mitsu to get popularity. it'll most likely go down in price after the initial markup period.

As far as design, it comes with a better chassis, yadadadadada, but one unmistakable thing in the design is the front end geometry. They had to "flip" the motor to get all of the catalytic converter stuff all sorted out, put the intake on the front and make the exhaust exit out the back. Ouch ...
But again the biggest drawback is the price. I hope it works out.

oh yea, and i also like how the front bumper has a flexible black rubber lip on the bottom, so that you will not scrape the paint when hitting driveways. very nice and thoughtful touch i think.
News flash: Mitsubishi Evo was never targeted at younger cult classic enthuisiats, but was always targeted at the 30-60 year olds. In the US the young gravitated towards the Evo because of the price and their awareness of the car through play station...the rest of the world knew it was a serious performance car that most kids could not afford.
I know it's still early but what research has been done on the weight? Has anyone in the aftermarket removed the hood or other easily replaceable components to weigh them and estimate savings with CF? I know a few pounds have been shed with prototype exhausts.
