Also made sure all the bolts are not loose including the center strut bolts...
^^^ This! I forgot to mark which bolt was located toward the outside or front of the car and there is definitely a small difference in which way it should go back. Can anyone confirm which way this goes? I noticed a small "tooth" or "lip" or whatever you want to call it on the underside of the one the seems to lowest. Or can anyone point me in the direction of an online mitsubishi service manual for the suspension? Here are some pics of what I'm talking about...

Do you need special tools to remove the greasy nut on the shock shaft?

So I also did this install over the weekend. I did the Eibach Pro kit, and found the spring compressors I had were great removing the front/rear springs, and installing the new front springs, but the new rear springs left little room on the coils on the bottom and not much room to compress where they fit. I ended up buying the thinnest set of compressors I could find, they werent at a great angle so kinda scarred up the springs a little (they were open a bit too wide.. think \ / instead of ( ) ) anyway, the only way to get the top nut on the rear springs was to compress as far as i could with the compressors, then literally put my hands on top of the spring, put all my weight on it, and have someone else screw the nut on. what a PITA! But, glad i did it. Kinda worried about rubbing with my 9.5" rota's but seems like they are just far enough away. Thanks for the writeup!

Question! I followed the instruction you have posted but im having a hard time on the rear. I was able to take out the strut and now i have trouble removing the top nut. The springs are compressed. Is there a certain way to remove the top nut??? And i also noticed that the top hat and the rubber boot was turning the same direction untourqueing the nut. Feedback please!!!

Great write up dude.

Reading every post on the thread helps eliminate a lot of questions. I'm going to be running through this with my springs in the coming month.

Great work!!!

I think its a lock nut, so I think you may need an impact wrench to remove it. I think the service manual cautions you not to over tighten this bolt, but I think I just used an impact wrench to install. No noises coming from my install at this point.

A lot of times you will have better luck by starting to remove the nut before compressing the spring. That way, once the spring is compressed, the nut is already broken loose and is easier to remove without the need for an impact.
