From what I've been reading, many cars that have been repainted in the past has these issues with the paint peeling off when the dip is removed. Can anyone verify?

Original paint or repaint, doesn't matter. Repaint might come off easier if it adhesion wasn't good in the first place, but it will take your OEM paint right off too!

I do paint and body work, and you do not want to do this to your car. Maybe for a weekend, but not for long term. It's airtight, bakes chemicals into your paint with the heat. Plasti-dip is a acetone/xylene thinned coating...that means it has some in it or will react to it. Wrap your paint in it, park it outside in the summer for a year and POOF kiss your clear coat goodbye

Quote: I did my girls chipped up door handles. When I peeled my first attempt off it took quarter size chunks of paint and clear with it. I dont want to put anyone off of this but just be cautious of the surface your coating. It could have been too chipped to begin with or ****ty mitsu paint. Im not sure. Im dipping more in the future just wanted to give me real world experience.
no it's because plasti-dip is not benign stuff. It is a solvent with xylene and naphthane in it-two paint thinners.

Never had or seen any of those exp. Seen it make the paint underneath a bit dull but it buffed right back to a shine without issue.

On my car I won't give a **** though it's an 03 w/ 10yr old paint, I'll just redip it as needed

I have been commercially dipping cars for well over a year now and have not had ANY issues with clear coat pealing or getting "eaten away" when removing the dip. My own personal GT-R was dipped for over a year before peeling it off and my paint was perfectly fine. Also keep in mind that I live in Texas where it's just stupid hot, and my car was raced and driven through nearly every weather element humanly possible with ZERO issues. IMHO if the clear coat is peeling up when removing dip then the clear coat was NOT properly laid down in the first place.

This is simply not true. My own personal GT-R was dipped for over a year in Houston, Texas heat, not stored inside, road raced, and driven over 15,000+ miles all over the US with ZERO issues to my paint after the dip was removed. And also keep in mind my GT-R has a combo of factory paint and respray from an accident back in 2010.

Can you show the before and after paint analysis that was done on your car to prove your claim that there were zero issues with your paint? Without it, you're simply speculating - just like a lot of people in this thread and the other thread.

Paint analysis..... lol. No, I can't. What I can say is I purchased the car new, dipped it myself, and after peeling the dip off after a year..... it looks like the day I bought the car. Not sure how that's speculating ?

2 Days after the dip was peeled off the car AFTER a year. No buffing required, just a simple wash and it was good as new!!
