Rotas for track use.
We're beating a dead horse here, but I'll chime in.
I've owned 3 sets of Rota Wheels and one set of RPF1's. All of them saw lots of DD - plenty of nasty Vermont potholes, lots getting sideways on the infinite gravel roads here, Autocross, and a couple track days. NONE of these wheels ever got bent or damaged in any way...other than a few paint chips and curb rash.
Rota wheels will be completely fine for 99% of people on this forum. Would I put them on a race car if I had one? probably not. But If I did, I wouln't be worried about them failing, I'd just want something lighter.
In my opinion, they're the best bang for your buck you can get.... I don't know about you, but I'd never waste $3k+ on a set of wheels, unless I was filthy rich. I wouldn't doubt it if there are more Rota owners on this site that see track time with their cars compared to the guys with their trendy designer Volk or Advan wheels who are too scared to get a scratch on them.
If you're on a budget, like most people, get a set of Rota's - they'll be fine for whatever you put them through. If you got money to burn, get a nice set Volk or Advan wheels. If you want a somewhat cheap, yet super light wheel, RPF1's all the way.

ROta should be compared to the same price level wheels or something close range, Like as you mentioned the Enkei RPF's etc..
those $3-4k comments are the horse they do hanging on it, and very much makes a distortion on the whole comparison deal between wheels and wheels.
People , as we learned , they think $3-4K wheels or rota's , nothing between there...
That is what Rota want you to believe, and they using it very effective . As your post actually shows too.
Rob
ps:
i do rally and i still have the original wheels after many accidents -put wholes - broke coilovers etc.
i love when track guys saying they rather buy 3 sets of rota instead of 2 sets of enkeis.
I got one set of Speedline Corse +1piece of spare in the trunk, over 2 years ago
but its getting too dirty - brake dust and metal welded on it . So i will/ did buy a new set for show, and still not touching the $ 3-4K mark....the wheels are in PERFECt condition other then they are dirty/they are white also to help on the situation/LOL and not even needed a wheel balancing after many miles driving in put wholes on the rims(flat tire in racing) etc.
So.... let it go that $3-4K comparisons already to the Rota's.

I'm not saying the stock evo 8/9 wheels. The Evo X wheel is 18x8.5.. that is fine to run a 265/35/18 on
I think the reason the horse has been beaten to such an extent and that the comparison comes up so often is because of how closely the Rota's tend to resemble/copy the original designs of Volk/Advan/Etc. However if Rota were coming out with original ideas of their own I doubt they would catch nearly as much flak.
Rotas have a tendency to crack and/or break rather than bend. I have seen plenty of pictures of broken/cracked/snapped-spoke Rotas. Granted, I have seen a few examples of bent Rotas, but there's something to be said about their alloys and casting processes if the failures are usually brittle instead of ductile.
What's so funny about me wanting 3 sets of Rotas opposed to Enkeis? I got them at a good deal and have no regrets.
I experienced that this weekend on my rotas. Other then that they held up perfectly. I was also pushing the car close to its limits and it getting it loose many times.
(those are Enkei RPF1's btw)
