20mm Spacers & Handling

I wanna put 20mm spacers on my X to make it look a bit better. Will it mess with the handling?

It didn't mess with mine at all. I didn't notice any benefit other than looks either.

Does "mess with" include help? If so, then the answer is yes.

I thought the wider track was noticeable and better.

Depends on the experience of a driver. Not many people will notice small changes, especially with the minor change in track.

spacers do stress the axle more then a lower offset wheel but 20mm should be fine..

I have never understood how this can be true. A 20mm spacer has the same distance from the hub as a -18 wheel(in the case of an Evo x) and should have the same amount of leverage on the hub/axel.

If the wheel bearing were at the hub/wheel interface, then I'd agree and even suggest that moving towards a zero offset would reduce stress. But the wheel bearing is way inboard of the hub/wheel interface, such that moving much below the original offset will add stress on the bearing.

The key is knowing where the wheel bearing is relative to the hub/wheel interface.

ps. 38 minus 20 is +18, not -18

^ he's asking why a spacer would stress the hub more than a wheel with the same resulting offset without a spacer, not overall offset. so a wheel with +18 offset or a wheel+spacer resulting in +18 offset

I agree with him that it doesn't make a difference as long as the "version 1" style spacers are used in the pic below. personally I'd never put the "version 2" spacers on my car

They will be sweet, the HKS Hipermax time attack evo runs something like 30mm + spacers without a problem. Lots of other track cars also run spacers without a problem.

High HP + hard track work should be enough testing/proof for people to realize spacers are fine to use.

SpaceRS are something that I am very interested in myself! Any recommendations as to which ones I should go for on my X?

Oh. Well, in that case, the answer is that it doesn't. The only differences between a +38 wheel with a 20mm spacer and a +18 wheel are, all else being equal, the +38 with spacer weighs more but has more caliper clearance.

Touge Factory sells the Ichiba brand, which are hubcentric. Call them, ask for Mike, and tell them I referred you...use my SN!
