I love the specs on the S4 but my main complaint about it and all audis in general are that they all look the same. When I see an Audi on the road, I can never tell if its an A4, A6, S4 or whatever. Plus they styling of the Bimmers are just more appealing.

You're talking about two cars that are almost on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I came from a 99 (E36) M3, and part of the reason I didn't hop into an E46 M3 is because it lost some of its edge. It got heavier and less raw and visceral. That to me, was detrimental, and then I would have to pay extra to get into one? No thanks. I just traded that M3 a few months ago for an 03 Evo. This takes the rawness factor of my M3 and multiplies it. It is really a car for the performance enthusiast. Sure there are times where I wish it was more refined and had a better ride, but for the most part I haven't looked back. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Now, depending on your needs, the E46 M3 will do that too.

I drove the new S4 and disliked it intensely. It was great inside, but performance and exterior looks were pretty lackluster. I would get a '98 or '99 E36 with low miles or an Evo.

gee...
Choose Evo MR if you (assuming that u want to pay less)
1) wanna take a 50mph cornering without worrying about ur back end slipping (advan)
2) wanna get about 320 whp (mid 12s) Evo with just Ground Wires, Manual Boost Controller
S-AFC 2 and turbo back with intake, serious performance gain with such little mods
3) would not mind hearing rattle sound or feel every rock on the road...
4) want V8 guys think that you are pos 4 banger lover, yet your car tag could be something like "8YOURV8" and could prove it( i saw this on evo forum, whoever had it..its awesome)
5) would not mind seeing every high school civic ricers try to race you while u are driving
6) wanna take it to auto x , thats nice~
7) would not mind about resale value of Evo..cause its crap....
8) wanna own a legend of rally championship car...this is the car for YOU
9) want to SPEND less amount of money than M3 maintenance, This is the car for You
i can go on..but will skip to M3
M3 is the Car For You if you (assuming you dont care about money)
1) want luxury and good performance in a package, couldnt ask more~
2) want to wash your car every friday night and drive around downtown just to people to stare at ur car..
3) want your girlfriend to actually KNOW what kind of Car you are driving, like "Nice Beamer"
and not something like oh..wasnt your car on "2fast 2furious?????? it looked mighty small compared to v8"
4) AGAIN looks so damn good....i love the exterior...

and If you ask me what would choose????
right now im 24...so..i really dont care about how other people thinnk of me as far as "today's people tend to put class status in their automobile regardless of their TRUE income" goes FOR NOW...

but within few years, i want to go to medical shools..and of course...then i want to get a luxury plus performance b/c i dont wanna worry everytime i try to get on highway with slow *** cars like minivan thinking " i hope a guy behind me dont honk at me..i am accelerating at my best"

hehe..
well.. its up to you...cause It will be YOUR CAR...
like i stated above it is all about REAL performace vs Luxury Classy look...

I'll never understand this question. Just get what suits your needs. If I were not into tracking my car, I would definitely go for the M3. If I did not have another car to drive, I'd probably do the same. I love the Evo, never have loved a car more, but it is a speed-toy, in my opinion, pure and simple. The few E-46 M3's I have seen at the track have not been impressive, one in the hands of avery good driver. The E-36 cars are a more track ready tool. Just my 2 cents.

thanks for all your input, i just talked to my buddy who owns an E46, he said, "good luck driving the car when it rains or snows", that made me change my mind about getting the M3 real fast, I saw the MR i put a deposit on at the dealership, im sure I would like the 6-speed, but it doesnt leave much room for modding at a $38,000 pricetag. im leaning towards the MR with the thought of the used 03 in close second

Man $38k? Does it have to be the MR? You can just get the regular 05 EVO8, it has the same hp/tq just not the little extras of the MR(6-spd).
