$8000 for low 12s????

So I got some money coming to me in a few days ($5000) how should I spend it? I’m completely new to the tuning world ( yes I to have been bit) I don’t want to make any stupid decisions. I talked to friend of mine who has a turbo eclipse and he said I can run low 12s with my budget ($5000 for parts and labor) . However, I called a local shop today and they said I would need at least $8000 is this true? I’m looking for biggest bang for buck any info would be greatly appreciated

my car is an 03 evo 8 everything oem also this car is my daily driver and will not see any track time just looking for a kicka$$ streetcar

thanks in advance

5k in parts should get you in the low 12's w/ a decent driver. You can also look at the stage upgrades like Vishnu or Buschur.

Here are a few mods. that will get you pretty close to low 12's

GSC cams-500 pair labor 150-350
Catback w/ down pipe- 700ish labor <100
ACT Clutch- 530 install 900
MBC 100- <100 install
fuel pump-95 install 50
Custom Dynoflash- 399

Let's see...

You can get Buschur Racing's Stage 4 that includes air intake, upper and lower IC pipes, mini- battery, upgraded FMIC, HKS cams, bigger fuel injectors, boost controller, boost guage and pod, bigger fuel pump, full turbo-back exhaust, and a custom ECU flash or SAFC-II for well under 4 grand. You could also get Buschur's Alky injection which will allow you to run a race gas-type tune on the street. This combo should get you into the 11's with a good launch. You could spend an extra grand or so and get a standalone EMS or Buschur's 20G Turbo Upgrade. This will definitelly put you into the 11's. With 5 grand, you should have NO PROBLEM seing mid-high 11's. Good luck!

I am running consistent 12.4's with $2350 in parts. For $5000 you should be able to easily acheive your goals with good driving skills.

$5,000 is more than enough to run low 12s, even high 11s, but the most important mod will be your driving skills. Your car will have the power to run some very impressive times, but it's up to you to drive it. Make sure you practice your launch and do not get discouraged if you don't immediatly achieve your goal, more practice and you will hit your goal.

$5,000 should bring you to the low 12's if you have good driving skills.i think your shop is including labor and parts($8,000)unless you have mechanic skills and do everything yourself.

He immediately said that his car will not see any track time, so the whole "low 12s" thing is just how he gauges power. It pains me knowing what I could do with 5k in mods, but I'm not going to bother mentioning it, because I highly doubt he'll do any of his own installations or tuning, so that cuts into the budget in a hurry. My bet is that he ends up blowing all that cash on a car with lots of good parts but has trouble beating SRT-4s on the highway, since that's the only place he'll race, then he'll come back here complaining...

Now, if he wants to prove me wrong on these assumptions, I'll glady offer my suggestion on how to hit low 12s (12.1) for less than $1500, then make a few suggestions on how to spend the other $3500.

Damn homeboy, I was just looking for some good advice and yeah your right 12s is how I gauge power since I dont know how much whp would translate into 12s. Be easy!!! Yes, I could save money by doing the work myself, but i'm currently attending UTI (i've only been in school 4mnths) and I dont currently have the resources to do the work at home, YET!! I've had the car a year and can't wait another year to do mods. One more thing, I do have experience driving AWD turbo cars, I had a slightly modded WRX that was totaled last year by a drunk ****. I Just dont know alot about EVOs other then the fact I think they are one of the best cars out there. So, am I entitled to your suggestions now.....

No, not yet. I'm not fond of people who somehow have Evos and 5k to blow on mods while being able to afford the car payment, insurance, and all potential repair costs after installing such mods while being in school. Those things don't add up. If and when I get over myself, I may provide further assistance. Until then, view my sig for the first clue...
