$8000 for low 12s????
I've probably spent right at $2200 and i run 12.4 12.5. Its all in tuning. You can get a decent tune for the ECU or S-AFC 2 and your a monster. Save all that cash and get a big turbo upgrade. hell thats what i would do. 12's won't even be a concern anymore.

Sounds like a fun vacation to me

everyone else who has some positive feedback..... good lookin out
Well, since you live in Az. low 12's aint easy. Since you said you just want a lot faster car for the street, then yes, way under 5G's. I know a couple guys who run low 12's in the midwest area with the non 10.5 hotsides. They have TBE, MBC, fuel pump, K&N drop in, and safc's. Also get a MR blow off valve. Go with a Buscher or AMS staged upgrade package and you'll see about 100 extra hp, which defenitley makes the Evo a fast car on the street.

$349 for Works Downpipe
$530 for Greddy Cat-back
$399 for Custom road tunning
$99 for air filter
$530 for HKS cams
$80 for boost controller
$300 for Cams install
-------
$2300
Note: I added later on the IC pipes and Buschur Battery but I was already running 12.4's without them
$2300 got me into mid 12's at 3100feet elevation(Tucson), definately low 12's in a sea level region and colder weather
a $8000 budget for running 12's is absolutely ridiculous, there are so many fast cars running really fast for dirt money that there is no even a point for this topic.
Every EVO8 with $5000 will run low 12's.
Whiteevo311 runs 12 flat with simple mods
Wartalon also runs low 12's with simple bolt ons
You can tell the person that gave you the estimate that he is full of it...

What kind of short times did you have when you ran 12.4's? It takes a good launch to get those times in that high altitude air. You also have to remember, your car is a few tenths faster than his stock.
Well, there you have it. You do the mods above, and you will be running about 1 second faster than stock. Then you can get a big FMIC to keep the air cooler since you live in a hot climate. Also, get a nice twin disc clutch with the rest of your money so it is easier to launch.

I spent no more than $1,300 in mods and im a 12.4-12.2 ( my car is a strong runner). Tbe, boost controller, drop in filter, lower intercooler pipe and aps 50/50 valve... and of course the custom dyno flash/pd tuning flash. Get the right mods, dont waste money on dumb sh*t.

Actually, to be honest, my MR was not as fast as the other MR's on the road when it was stock. This was mainly because of elevation issues.
The answer to your question about my launches, when I first got my MR I was doing average of 2.2s 60feet, then I started launching it more agressively and I dropped to the 2.0s 60ft. Finally I removed the switch for the 5k rev limiter and that got me into the 1.7's being a 1.706 my best so far.
I think that I am a quick shifter, I am not new to the track, I have been taking my cars to the track for many years.
My last few AWD cars were:

you are in AZ so the heat is the severely overlooked factor here. stock evos here run on avg .8-1.5 sec SLOWER IN THE 1/4 MILE than on the east coast. & they said it was a "cool" 110 degrees today. give Mynes Performance (480-969-5609) a call. they do some pretty serious work. or PM me. i spent only $1500 in mods on the '03 and i'm a good launch away from 12's on the STOCK cams, clutch, turbo, & intercooler. if you want to run 12's here with 91 octane, it will cost you some $ but not $5k. maybe 1/2 of that at the most. i did all the work on my cars myself (except the base Dynoflash) so my labor was $0. i only use 101 octane unleaded in the '03
