Bought mine used for 19,600 (knew the guy, otherwise it was going to go for 23K), put down $9600, paying off 10K in 3 years at $278.80 a month. Insurance is $115 a month (a rate I siltl don't get, even witha family plan it should NOT be this "cheap" ona young driver such as I), so $394.13 goes into my car mothly. I make about $1000-1500 dollars a month being a full time student, so about 26%-39% goes into paying the thing. If we factor in mods, gas, and some fluids here and there, about 90% sounds reasonable

Not including fuel, maintenance, or modifications, my Evo only costs me about $550 a year. (Registration + liability insurance.)
The last time I spent a significant portion of my income on a car was in '94 when I bought a new RX-7. At that time, the loan payment amounted to about 13% of my gross income; with insurance, probably 15% or 16%. I can't imagine spending over 20% on a car -- well, unless I was maybe a full-time student living at home.
But more power to you guys who want a car that badly and go out and get it.
On the other hand, my mortgage payment currently comes to about 44% of my gross income.
