I would really love an evo but the question that faces me is should i get an Evo 8 and mod it or get an Evo 9 and take a bit longer to start mods. Can anyone tell me the main difference in speed between Evo8 MR and Evo9 MR please. Thank you for all the help.

PS. Please dont say an Evo is too much car for a 16 year old. It gets old wherever I go I get "an sti is too much of car for you" or some junk like that. Thank you.
any parent that would even considering buying a 16 yr old 1st time driver somethin like an EVO for a first car should be locked up for endangering a minor.. .. all jokes aside we all know most 16-18 yr olds can't even drive responsible i their 120 hp riced out civics... an EVO?? suicide buddy.. get a nissan versa or somethin'...they get like 1274 miles per gallon lol

heh when i was 16 my first car was an s2000, when i first got it drove it like a ***** i remeber when i first took it up to 7k rpm in 1st gear in a dead street i was scared as ****. only thing i messed up on it was a lil dent reversing in my blind spot. sold that car 6month(around there) later and got an evo. i curbed my car once that i am i need of uppercontrol arm and hud bearings(coming in this tuesday) when i did that i felt like i didnt deserve that car. what ever other car is home ill drive it instead of my evo. btw i am 17 now.

at 16 an evo is the worst car to own. as already mentioned no driving experience = bad things in an evo. i will most likely be gettin an evo come may and i am almost 19 and i still to this moment don;t trust myself driving an evo. i currently still beat the hell out of my lancer es and i have been driving for a little more than 2 years. i kno the power of the evo cause my friend owns one and it is a beast. to much for someone with out experience.

I'm nearly 18 and just got an Evo... even I would agree to wait just a touch. Get something sporty, but not Evo-sporty. I drove a minivan most of my first year, then graduated to my dad's old Porsche 944 cabrio (still way slower than an evo) and an 06 TSX this year. If I were you, go for a new civic Si, modify it a little to know what you like. It's a good compromise, I know how fun it is to have a fast car when you're young. BE CAREFUL no matter what you get, whether its a 350whp evo or a 95 ford taurus. I baby my car, and drive it like I drove the minivan.

im 16 myself and have an evo and suggest not to get it because everyone tries to push you into doing something and i listened to them 1 time and got in trouble for doing donuts in soccer fields.DO NOT EVER TAKE FRIENDS IN YOUR EVO PERIOD.the only reason i ever got one in the 1st place was because my brother got an sti for his 16th bday..everyone who is saying not to get it i have to agree with except for the part where they say that teens think they are invincible..and do learn to drive stick before you get the car

Hey am I went through the same thing you did with a thread and everything... Everyone told me not to get it and how I would wreck it in a matter of weeks... Yet I didn't listen to them and get my first car as a 06 Evo GG MR... I've had her for about 6 months now and I love it... Then agian it wasn't technically my first car cause I already had been driving for almost a year...

I suggest when you get your license you use your parents' cars for a couple months or so... Get in the hang of driving and stuff... Then you should consider getting the evo if you and parents consider you as a good driver... I had to earn my parents trust before I got my car and they remind me everyday not to do anything stupid... As long as you are smart about the car you will be okay...

Also if you a type of person that gives into peer pressure really easily... Don't even think about getting this car... My friends always tell me to do stupid **** and I tell them to get the fu*k out of my car...

Learn to drive stick before you get the evo too... My dad had a friend that owned a used car dealership and I got to borrow the car for a week and learned to drive it on hills and stuff... You will burn and kill the clutch if you try and learn on the evo...

If you get the evo be sure to get an alarm system and always park it where people are or in site of you... I had to learn this the hard way... Oh yeah and break in the car if you get it... That means keeping the revs under 5k and driving under 60 (at least thats what I did) for about 2k miles... Which means NO SPEEDING... I drove like a grandma on my car... Good luck with it man... Don't worry about all these guys telling you not to do it... If you feel that you are responsible enough for a fast car go right ahead...

You have any question for me just im me or pm me... And always BE CAREFUL... Driving is not a game it is life or death...

my best advice I could give you is get a cheap monthly payments/insurance, safe car (scion TC equipped with side curtain airbags)that you could use for the mean time.that will teach you how to use a stick shift that is if your new using it. Don't do it. Young kids are very aggressive in driving. You'lle thank us later.trust me.

Here's the problem s0lga, every parent thinks their child is great. I don't know of any parent in the world that views their kid in the same way society does. The same goes for peer pressure, no one admits to being whipped by peer pressure.

To share one of my own stories....

My first vehicle (age 16-17) was a 1993 S10 5 speed. Learned how to drive stick, replaced my first clutch and had alittel fun with a truck i didn't really care to much about. Second vehicle full size 1992 GMC (17 - well just got rid of it but it was out commission for a year, currently 24). At age 20 i really wanted a nice car, i actually wanted a nice car whne iwas 16 but thankfully couldn't afford it. So anyways i always wanted a corvette so at age 20 i bought a 1992 corvette. Loved the car, autocrossed, drag raced and pretty much used it as a daily driver except for the winters. One night, one of the last nights before i was going to take it off the road i took one of my friends who was home from school out for a ride. Approx 1 mile down the street from his house i wrecked. I had never previously been pulled over in my car let alone gotten a speeding ticket. I was 21 at the time 5 years older than you are now and i was very cautious with the car on the street. THe problem is you have to be that way 100% of the time. A temporary lapse of judgement is all it takes. Thankfully for me my friend was unharmed and i walked away with a few staples in my head (very lucky).

So i guess what I am saying is you are going to be driving for a long time. Buy a GTI with a 1.8T 5 speed. Fun car, handles great (good for beginner autocrosser), decent mileage and drive it for 2 or 3 years. Then get an EVO X and respect it for what it is.

Driving is serious. Kids dont realize how dangerous it really is. When I was in the Marine Corps, before we went on a long holiday weekend, we would have safety briefs. Sometimes they would break out the pictures of people after a wreck. When you see crushed heads with eyes popping out, or remains dragged along a highway, it makes ya stop and think. And it's not only your lack of driving skills you have to worry about, their are alot of stupid people on the road that you have to watch out for.
Then you have everyone and their brother trying to race you just because you have an EVO. You know it's wrong, but then again, you don't want someone in a Yugo thinking they beat you.
No one is trying to talk you out of getting a great car cuz we're jealous that your a spoiled brat (joke). It's just that we have been around the block and seen and experienced alot more than you have.
Whatever you decide, be careful and good luck.
