Question Max HP vs. Octane rating

Sorry about the newb question, I tried searching for the answer but I am trying to figure out what kind of HP goes with what Octane. More importantly pump gas at a rating of no more than 93. What would be the max safe HP to go with that rating. Is 700 whp, 500 or even 350 awhp possible/safe? Thanks all!

Instead of asking what's the safe "max HP" for an octane rating, perhaps you should think about compression ratio, boost level, ignition timing, dynamic compression, intake temperature, plug temperature, and a whole lot of other things.

Okay...assuming the engine and all associated components are built in a manner so that they will perform as reliably as possible assuming the high hp, what octane would be acceptable. I have read posts of people that claim 800 or more horsepower, but I doubt they are running on pump 93 (more like race gas). I am just trying to see if anyone has a sensible anwer to how much hp is practical to run on pump 93? I would like to have somewhere between 400 and maybe a little over 500 awhp.

Are we talking strictly about the 2.0 NA (US Specs) motors? Or what exactly are you refering to? If you are going to go NA route, you can try and bore and stroke the engine as much as you can with some good internals, build up your valvetrain, throw in some beefy cams in there and I am sure you can see a healthy 200whp on 93 octane without breaking a sweat.

Or are you talking about the EVO VIII here?

Bone stock engine? With just boost controller? Or are we talking about reduced CR, upgraded intercooler, water injection, yadda yadda yadda?

Talking about a built motor, with upgraded internals etc., upgraded turbo, intercooler, and other associated parts.

Without owning an EVO, my (very uneducated) guess would be around 350whp safely on pump gas and even that is pushing a little... You really have to make sure you're properly cooling the charged air.

What's the most HP the EVO guys here have gotten their cars on pump gas? I am curious now.

I think a good place to start would be looking at how much power 1G/2G Eclipses were/are able to put out on pump gas. Hopefully some of our more knowledgable DSM guys could chime in and it wouldn't hurt to do some DSM research either.

350 whp? Max? On an EVO? Nope.

http://www.twingles.com/ideck/eclipse/448whpdyno.jpg

93 Octane on a DSM pumping out 448 whp and 368 wtq.
Don't underestimate your .

Wheel horsepower on a DSM/EVO can go quite high but the wheel torque on 93 octane seems to be limited around to what this guy's pumping out. You can make more whp simply by carrying the torque to higher rpm. The WRX's seem to be limited around 350 but they can't easily carry it to high rpm to make big whp due to several factors.

91 octane in Cali...

448whp is nice though... Wonder how much time went into tuning...

I've seen some pretty nice numbers there as well.
I think that guy did quite a bit of tuning, but then again, he has a standalone/wideband and probably got it close on his own then tweaked it on the dyno.
