Rather long story...
First off, let me say that I'm very impatient. I've been wanting an Evo for some time now. But never really wanted to wait for one. I looked online for some months. I called a couple dealerships, set up some test drives without ever being able to actually buy one. I test drove a couple, loved them but never bought one. Some more months passed by. Then I came across one that was for sale on the boards for $22k. All I had to my name was a motorcycle and about $3k. Before I did anything drastic or anything that I would regret I made some quick calculations of how I would be able to make the $22k purchase. I went to the bank to see how much of a loan they would give me, turned out to be about $15k. I wanted to make sure that before I sold the bike that I would be able to buy the car. So, I sold the motorcycle I had (2001 ZX6r) for $4400. Took the $15k loan check and a $7000 cashiers check (bike money + the money I already had) and sent them to this guy I only pm'd a couple times, spoke to him once, and I've only seen pictures of the car. I went for it though. I took the $22k dive. He got the money, the next weekend I picked up the car, about 3 hours away from where I lived. I was very happy with it. It came exactly the way you see in my sig. So I had a car but no title. He said he was going to send me the title but he couldn't find it. WTF!?!? I was pretty angry needless to say. So after about a month or so of the car just sitting at my friend house being unable to drive it or even see it at that mater. Because I live on base and he lives out in town. I got the title but it wasn't notarized. So I request another one, this time notarized. About 2 weeks later, I go the tag agency and finally get my tag 1.5 month after picking up the car. And I would do it all over again if I had to, I would do it in a more organized fashion but I'd never look back.

i got my evo viii 2 yrs ago. been wanting one for a while, i kept seeing this red evo 8 parked by a dry cleaning place everyday i go to work...then one day, i drove by and noticed it was a red evo ix??? so i looked in autotrader and sure enough, it was traded in at one of the local mitsu dealers...dealer replaced the tranny coz previous owner broke it... gave me a 3 yr 50k warranty on the tranny, and i've been babying it since then.
then last christmas season i was looking around craigslist and another local mitsu dealer was selling an ob evo x for like $27k. it was a factory buy back and after getting info from local people i found out the previous owner did a "moneyshift" and all intake/exhaust valves had to be replaced and the head reshimmed. went to the dealer, took it for a spin, everything checked out fine...got it with a 100k extended warranty and now the wife has her very own evo x with sss and navi
i've never bought a brand new car my whole life..would be nice but from where i stand at the moment i wouldn't spend $7-10k more on a brand new car if i could get it for 7-10k cheaper with only a few miles on it. the evo x is the closest i've been to getting an almost brand new car (only had 2600 miles on it).

Well my story is actually pretty interesting..I was hanging out at a local car meet wishing I could trade Ion Redline in for a Evo. Then I was thinking no, no, no this car will never get me anywhere close to paying off a Evo.
So on my way home I was rear ended by a drunk Indian lady at a stoplight...Lets just say that helped out alot!
Their insurance company totaled out my car and bought me a used WW Evo for 15 K. I know this is going to sound extreame but its totally true. I was driving the new Evo back from the DMV some 73yr old guy hit me while he was turning. Messing up the whole front end of my new evo that I had for ONLY 2 DAYS!!!
Man was I mad! But my hunt was on for another Evo, it was nothing I had ever experienced before and I kinda fell in love with it lol. That guys insurance gave me 21k for another Evo and I found mine for 18k w/ 30k miles!!

I got it 2 years ago. It was a horror story with happy ending. It was slightly moded and I made the super dumb mistake of getting it with an extended warranty. I was not very careful on inspecting it when I got it and it seems the Previous owner was not very careful with it, so as soon as I got it I did a tune and change all fluids and everything that there is to changed. However, as soon as something big broke, Mitsu voided the warranty included the $2k extended one I got. During that time I had to chance a clutch, a turbo, and the whole ACD unit (plus replace some cheap parts I found on it, like an EBAY-IC, now it has an AMS one). All this out of pocket; however, eventhoug it was initially a horror story I could not be happier with it. The car is in super top shape now, and now that its babied has not given any problems whatsoever.
The plan (tentatively) is to trade the Supra for a WW IX (rather fond of white... and it will match the C5), sell my current daily-driver, and just use the IX daily. Granted, I'll probably end up buying a Civic or CRX and the IX will sit in the garage just like the other two... but that's a bridge I'll cross when/if I get there.
Being a long-time DSMer, the only way I was gonna buy one was if it was cheap. I sold my last DSM - a 90 AWD that had run 11.8 @ 123 on pump with $6k invested including the car - and was debating what to do next. I was tired of the DSM thing and started considering my options...
I'd always wanted an EVO they were still priced too high for me to take the plunge right now with a new baby and the wife staying home with him. I was considering selling my daily driver Civic and just getting a "fun" daily driver. The biggest problem there was my Civic's an auto (wife needs to drive it, plus 25k miles a year for work with many road trips to NYC/DC in gridlock make driving a stick painful)...
So I was limiting myself to a "fun" auto car. I also needed decent space but didn't want anything "big" like an Accord/Camry/Legacy. Then there's the fuel economy, if it's my only car I need to get at least around 30mpg highway - that rules out AWD like the Ralliart and WRX. The Mazdaspeed3, Civic Si, and others only come in manual so they're out. Mini S is way too small. I basically narrowed it down to a GTI, fit the bill perfectly, fun to drive, responds well to basic reflash/intake/exhaust mods. Only problem was, I was reading more and more horror stories about them and couldn't pull the trigger...
At the same time, I was still contemplating just keeping the Civic and getting another 2nd car for fun. I was looking at EVOs, 350z's, S2000s, C5s,... and basically realized anything other than the EVO would become boring in stock form within months and would cost significantly more to mod. I lucked out and found my '03 TB VIII on this forum back in August with a list of bolt-ons and a blown engine about an hour away from home. I PMed him, worked out a price ($9k), and had a buddy trailer it home...
The day I got it home, I started tearing it down. The car had alot more mods than the guy thought. He had bought it already modded and blew it up almost immediately (guy he got it from must've had a boost gauge in the car that he removed. It was tee'd into the FPR vacuum line. When he removed it he left the line open tucked underneath the dash. Guess what happens when your FPR doesn't increase pressure under boost?). I found it had HKS 280s, ACT clutch/flywheel, full 3" exhaust with an HKS full Ti cat-back, tubular o2 housing, IX turbo, HKS intake pipe/filter, Helix upper IC pipe, stainless clutch/brake lines, Walbro 255HP, and probably more I'm missing. Upon initial inspection I found a hole in the oil pan. Then after removing the head I noticed the #1 piston was missing! After pulling the turbo/mani I saw the hole in the block...
After realizing the engine was scrap, I found a good 28k 05 engine complete with turbo, intake mani, and everything for $2500. Picked it up, dropped it in and swapped over the cams and clutch, and finally fired it up on Dec. 28th (my b-day). Everything sounded great, no leaks, shut it down and took it for it's maiden voyage the next day. While it was down I also did a CBRD BBK lite using the IX turbo as a core, picked up a BR Deluxe FMIC used cheap, and got a wideband and 950s. I had JMFab weld the WB bung in last week, I'll be swapping in the 950s and playing with the tune pretty soon...
It's been a great project, learned alot about these cars (funny how much is similar/identical to DSMs though). I'm looking forward to some warmer weather so I can really start to enjoy it.

im 25 got my evo 3 years ago with 30 miles clean title brand spanking new paint job candyapplegreen...wow....i bought it off a 16 year old kid in miami his dad was a owner of a ferrari dealership....a payed 16k cash 3 years ago for a evo hell of a deal....
I had to get into an accident to get mine. I flipped my ep civic going around a corner on a damp downhill mountain road. I was lucky that I landed back on all 4's because there was a guardrail/drop off combo waiting for me on the other side of the road. I also had to look around for a month before I finally found one.
