03 and 04 never had 2step unless you gotta it with your tune by your tuner. 05 and 06 came with the stock rev limiter.

Thats a example of what you can find in 5 seconds. Not being a dick.

2-step is just a rev-limiter that cuts ignition on certain cylinders in a certain order to hold a pre-set RPM. that can be used on any type of motor to help you have more consistent launches weather its N/A stock turbo or big turbo.

2-step with anti lag is a rev-limiter but with an added bonus of building boost with out a load on the engine.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for explaining HOW a 2 step works. but my question is not how it works but WHY is it called a 2 step. why isn't it called a 3 step...etc
Thanks

Because you use both your feet - Clutch and Gas pedal fully depressed - AEM definition.

Most others refer to a 2 step because the rev limiter has multiple steps. Normal rev limiter 7500, secondary rev limiter 6000. Some also retard timing for an antilag effect allowing a turbo car to build boost without load.

There is also a 3 step. Most people refer to a 3 step as 2 step launch control plus no lift to shift with rev matching. Or you could use the 3rd step for tire burnouts, etc.

Some 3 steps will detect that your WOT shifting and allow you to keep the throttle plate open but limit the RPM's to a specified drop or specified value (some retard timing for antilag here too). We have NLTS shifting with rev matching with Tephra mods.

The primary rev limiter (redline) is set to 7600 from the factory. The IX's secondary is at 5500. 04 and 05 VIII's are 5000, and 03's are set to 7800 or something that they will never hit - they hit the primary rev limiter before they get to the secondary, hence the 2 step is disabled on these cars in factory form but it can be enabled by changing the value in the ECU.

The ECU prevents ignition past 7600.
