Advantages for the Cobalt... ITS NEW! If you dont mind used cars, then it shouldnt bother you... but some people mind. Also its redone and Chevy left the supercharger and turbo'd this beeotch. Conclusion - greater performance from previous model. NOW. If modded correctly these cars can potentially eat Evo's and STi's and S2K's and Z's on some tracks. They are light and need a driver that can manage oversteer, car being FWD.
I bet there is a lot of oversteer on those FWD Cobalts.

To OP - I've already mentioned it...the Cobalt SS is a negative image car just like the SRT4. Why are you even comparing these two cars? Why not look into a WRX or used STi as a better comparison to the EVO? The new WRX should make a for a nice car with the bump in hp for '09.

It would be much easier to make the Evo run thw 11's but the FWD 11 sec car also easily get there as well.

Carlos
statements not true

any srt in the 11's that are "stock turbo" are most likely stage 3, which is a bigger turbo than stock. either that, or they are running nitrous.

stock srt's come with 17x6 wheels with 205 45 17 tires. the acr srt's came with 16x7's with a 225 45 16 tire. getting in the 12's without slicks is damn near impossible. idc how much power you have, getting out of the 13s with street tires is HARD. my best time on street tires was 13.1@108. slicks is a must for these cars.

OK, here is my .02. Non bias ASE mechanics opinion because i don't own either. I would go Evo.

The Evo will outlast the cobalt hands down. I am not bashing Chevy, but they don't last. They rust faster and require more overall maintenance. Within the last year, I have replaced MANY wheel bearings on the Cobalts. They also have alot of problems with the evap system....not a big deal, but you'll get the annoying CEL. I have not replaced a single mitsu wheel bearing. Only thing i can remember replacing on a mitsu is a couple end links. The AWD will be better in the snow and dry pavement. Who really cares about gas mileage when you are buying a performance car.....if your worried about gas milage, buy a slow hybrid.

Again, these are facts coming from someone who works on cars that are exposed to snow and road salt. If you were debating gm to ford, I would say the gm all the way.

You will be much happier with an Evo. There is not one Con on the evos side in the comparison.

Opinions on Cobalt SS Supercharged and EVO 9

Hi, this is my first post and I am new here. I own a 07 Cobalt SS Supercharged and an 06 Evo 9 MR. I have had the Cobalt for 2 yrs now; it has some mods done to it. The mods were done before I got the EVO. I have had the EVO for almost 6 months and it is stock.

Here is my opinions on both from my experience of owning both.

Weather and Gas Mileage:
Depending where you live, the cobalt SS Supercharged in not good in the snow. I drove it twice in the snow and it was not fun. Slid everywhere. Felt like too much power and not getting enough traction on the snow covered roads. Now I only use the car in the summer. Also the Cobalt, depending how much tread is on your tires, it hydroplanes easily. I believe this is because of how light the car is. The SS Supercharged, I think in the 07 cobalts, is the lightest of the bunch.

The EVO is good for all year round. I drove it a couple of times in the snow and I felt secure. But do not get snow in the rims. Knocks the car out of balance. Learned this the hard way.

Cobalt does get better gas mileage than the EVO as long as I do not drive it aggressively. (I drive 60 miles round trip to work 5 days a week.) The Cobalt is gets about 30 miles per gallon while the EVO gets about 24 miles per gallon.

Power:
My Cobalt has been moded to get around 250HP. Since the car is supercharged, the response when flooring the gas pedal is quicker than the EVO, but the EVO plants you in your seat when the turbo does kick in. The EVO defiantly has more power stock than my moded Cobalt. The Cobalt is front wheel drive while the EVO is all wheel drive.

NOTE:
The Cobalt SS Supercharged is not being made anymore, so I do not have any opinions on how turbocharged compares to the supercharged. All I know is that the turbocharged stock is around the same horsepower than my Supercharged after my mods.

Interior and Sound System:
My cobalt screams see me. I have black with yellow inserts as the interior. And it came as stock. The car itself is Rally Yellow. But the EVO has some cool carbon fiber as part of its interior while the Cobalt does not. Also the EVO has the racing seats, witch I think are cool. The sound system in the Cobalt is awesome. The car compensentes for the noise while driving. Faster you go, the stero system volume will get loader. It also decreases volume as you slow back down. I defiantly say the sound system in the Cobalt is better than the EVO.

Body:
EVO body is way better looking than the Cobalt. For driving in reverse, EVO is easier to see out the back. The Cobalt is "angled" up so seeing anything close to the ground is almost non-existence when looking in the rear view mirror. (I have not lowered the Cobalt at all. Still stock suspension.)

Suspension and Handing:
EVO is incredible, unbelievable compared to the Cobalt. EVO handles turns better and takes bumps better. The Cobalt has a "stiff" suspension, when I hit a pot whole, I feeeeel it. Also the cobalt suspension is higher than the EVO. Cobalt has more ground clearance then the EVO. (Cobalt can go over a groundhog easily. Not sure about the EVO. Do not want to find out either. I live in the "boonies.")

Maintenance:
I have not had any problems with my Cobalt. I do routine maintenance. It has 29XXX miles. The EVO has 33XXX miles. When I bought the EVO it had 26XXX miles. Have not had any problems with it either. Now I am going through the 30XXX routine maintenance.

Overall:
If looking for a year round solid car to drive daily, EVO is the better pick. But for pricing, the Cobalt is the cheaper of the two. When I got my EVO used, it was around 5K more than my Cobalt bran new. But it was worth it. The Cobalt is good for gas mileage as a daily driver, but cannot drive it in the winter. If looking for Power and Performance, EVO is the way to go.

Hopefully this has helped.

With whatever you pick, gook luck.

He's talking about the turbocharged Cobalt, it's a completely different beast from your SC Cobalt.

I would get the Evo.

I saw this turbo kit for the Colbalt. It produces 371whp 383wtq. For $3,995.00.
