Evolution VIII or Cobalt SS
I can respect a brand new cobalt, but I really love having AWD especially when modding your car. That extra traction helps. If you plan to stay stock, the cobalt is your best bet. You have a warranty. If you are going to mod it, its easier to do that with a used car since your warranty will be called into question every time you go to a dealer that isn't mod friendly.
I notice a lot of Colbalt SS owners (Neon SRT4 owners also) try to start something with me when ever they see me, it can range anywhere from a mean rev to a hard stare down....

but i dont know, AWD>FWD for sure

but i dont know, AWD>FWD for sure

^^^ believe me if i was looking to start something with an evo i would pull up in my camaro.... believe me no ones going to mess with a high 7 second car when its all finished. and before i get comments on that cant be on the street. it looks totally stock except its slammed and has a 25.5 cage in it. it wouldnt get much street time sincei have a 5 gallon cell in the back but if i put a bigger one in i could take it out on the street it would just be a little rough dricing. i really dont thing anyone would wanna mess with it. all i really plan on doing to the whichever car is an full exhaust, intake, hot and cold side pipes, bov, apperance stuff, maybe a cam upgrade, and some nice rims and tires. not trying to make a 10 second car.

i understand not a pull type question.... but i mean im posting on here, cobaltss.net, ls1tech and all over... i want all around opinions. theres been people on here that have said get the cobalt if you wanna read through 6 pages but majority is evo.... i like to get legit answers from everyone.... i dont criticize for people telling me why their car of choice is superior..... i just want all possible answers. i like both cars. evo pulls harder and handles better and is all wheel drive..... cobalt is decently quick, good gas mileage, brand new 1st owner dont have to worry about previous owners beating the car up. both have pros and cons.

haha i took it apart because it was time to go faster........gotta bench race it for now since it just got back from having a 25.5 cage put in from the 10 point that was in it........ a lot of sti evo owners do it to.... "oh its at ams or strictly modified right now getting tuend or some bs bla bla bla." im not saying ill beat everything out there so im really not bench racing.... just stating that when its all set in stone and finished to my high standards i dont think people will wanna screw with it on the street..... its for the most part a full blown drag car. also the reason why i dont need an evolution for a drag car and dont want to be pushing 600-700hp with it. i just want a daily with few mods. im not saying im saying that im going to smoke everything with wheels in the camaro but im honest about where my cars at no need to lie because when its all done i know what it will be. its just getting the extra bits and pieces together and like the saying goes the faster you wanna go the more money it takes. stuffing a all aluminum big block with a 106mm turbo into a 94 isnt cheap either if you want it built right and built to last. im sure you guys with evos know parts arent cheap either.

i really do want the evo but for the price dealers want i think its pretty obserd dont you guys? i mean 24500 out the door for a car with almost 40000 on it? especially when i could of gotten one for 22200 out the door... only difference was that one didnt have a sunroof. i didnt buy because the day before the paper signing it got broken into and to much stuff stolen.... value goes down for theft and the guy wanted to sell it as is... not worth the money woulda had to put into it
man...that dealer is out of their mind. i got my evo 9 with 38k miles for 24000 out the door. car was immaculate too.
im not sure if they have really improved to cobalts interior much, but my buddy with a SC SS, his interior is ****. everything is made out of **** material, and some parts are painted and chip.
yes the lancer interior is pretty basic minus the seats, but it's still nice. i have not driven the cobalt ss yet, but im sure it is a fun little car.
coming from an srt-4, i hated ftw, and i now love my evo. there is nothing like it. but i only hated fwd because i modded the **** out of my neon. being that this would be your dd, and you dont plan to mod it, you could go with either ride. it's really just your preference.
if you are really that stuck between the two, think of it financially. which would be more practical.
hope i helped

more practical would be the cobalt but money really isnt an issue here. i just want to finance so that i can have something good on my credit so its not so light. its near perfect just light. and yeah all the dealers out here want about 24000 out the door for a standard VIII and more for an MR. i basically have till the 27th to find an evo or im going to get the cobalt..... chevys got a good deal for 0% financing for 60 months(sale ends friday next week) and since i own 2 gms i get the whole buyer loyalty discount plus some extra off that i got from haggling on it. its got 2 miles on it black with black sport cloth, pioneer 7 speaker sound system, high rise spoiler, ipod interface, alloy rims etc. its totally loaded. im trying really hard to find an evo its just not working out and i need a car by the end of the month....so i mean you guys keep a lookout for me... my limit is 24000 out the door but i dont expect to pay that much for a car unless it has low miles and is loaded. like i said 24400 out the door for this silver one is a joke with the imperfections it has.... on top of it he wouldnt let me test drive it because of the snow which is a load of crap....especially since i have a perfect driving record.
One, there are many SRT-4s running 11's on stock turbo.
Two, you did not get traction because the stock SRT-4 feature 17x7" rims but there are many 11 sec FWd cars out there.
It would be much easier to make the Evo run thw 11's but the FWD 11 sec car also easily get there as well.

^^^thats funny lol..... well money for one or the other isnt an issue....i cant afford both. i have 2 camaros and a mustang... all payed off but im still dumping money into the race car lol so i cant afford both..... from this ive concluded get an evo.... so im going to do my best and try to find one but i only have this week to do so, so any help would be appreciated. like i said i would prefer black white or graphite but any color is fine except red, would preferablly have a sunroof but its not a deciding factor, little or no mods, must have been taken care of....
If you really need AWD, then go Evo. The SS is actually a good track car. There's nothing wrong with FWD. I drove them for about 8 years in the snow with no problems. The SS' interior looks like but still have that GM feel to it. The Evo is going to cost you more for gas and maintenance (no transfer case to worry about + fresh new warranty). The evo has a lot better "cool" factor to it though. I could have bought a SS for the price I got an Evo for ($24K) but I always wanted an Evo and it was pure luck I found the one I really wanted. The SS on the other hand, the dealer never had any and didn't really give a **** if I came back to test drive one since they always sell them.
