i say get an EVO...if not that EVO, find an EVO somewhere, but get an EVO over the cobalt. the cobalt is a decent car, but the EVO is faster, and just a better car. as far as those magazine tests with the new cobalt going as fast as an EVO X MR, on the course they were on, the cobalt likely had an advantage because of the long str8's. EVO X's aren't worth a **** in a str8 line. An EVO IX would have done a lot better in that test. not just that, but i don't trust magazine tests anyway because magazine editors don't know how to drive AWD cars. proof? their idiot test a couple years ago in which the EVO IX MR finished behind a 350Z, and the supercharged cobalt SS had higher corner ENTRY AND EXIT speeds than both the EVO and Track edition Z.

they can't drive, period. the EVO's faster, get it.

Financial you will do much better with the EVO

The cobalt will lose value over the evo because it is a new car and you always take a huge hit on new cars. Also the EVO is over priced slightly.

Dont think about what the car is worth now think about what the car is going to be worth when you try to sell it. Also think about which car is going to be higher in demand AKA sought after.

Got my IX SE a month ago for just over 25. It hurt a little, but it came with brand new summer tires and an extra set of rims with all seasons for the winter. It is also immaculate and had under 29,000 miles on it. Got 6% APR fixed for 60 mo and extra 5-year warranty. I dunno, if I hadn't gotten it it was going to be a Mazdaspeed3 for me. I just can't bring myself to even consider a Cobalt SS, even though the new one has promise. Once I pay the EVO off I would like to get it to right around 300 hp to the wheels and track day it some. To me no other car exists that is as versatile for daily use and a beast when you need it to be. It snowed tons the day after I got it and I was flying all over the place in it. No matter what it just goes.. Also, in terms of resale I think an EVO with 80,000 miles on it and well taken care of will still out-value a 50,000 mile Cobalt, purely subjective I know. I'd wait on the Cobalt and go try out a Mazdaspeed3 just for funsies if you don't get the EVO. Another thing to consider is the new Cobalt SS has just come out and all the kinks way not be worked out yet, while the current Mazdaspeed3 is at the end of it's production cycle and the model has been produced for a few years now. Just my .02

The Evo IX was slower the year before thus the Cobalt SS is as faster or faster than any Evo. There is a massive thread on this subject. The magazine editors didn't drive the cars, professional racers did.

24K is too much for an 05, you should be to find a IX for that price. Cars just aren't selling. IMO GM will be having a sale on Cobalts after 27th as well.

Yeah that happened to me the other night on the interstate. Funny thing was I wasn't racing...just merging onto the interstate. Guy in the Cobalt SS was a ricer that was weaving in and out of traffic as fast as he could. I'm sure he posted on some lame Cobalt website about how he beat an EVO.

IMO the Cobalt SS has a bad rep to go with the car...much like the SRT4 Neons.
