Evolution VIII or Cobalt SS
personally saying this to you since you own a fast car such as your camaro or idk what you have i forgot your gonna get bored with your DD and are gonna want something new( not saying this will happen to you maybe not, but from this is my view) because you cant just drive your 9 sec car every where.. just like F1fan07 said the new cobalt is brand new of the line its gonna have some kinks and what not there gonna have to work out? this saying you never know.. you might end up spending more money fixing the cobalt(possibly warranty will cover it)? who knows not say it will happen but yeah or even the aftermarket parts that they are coming out with might not be enough to satisfy you.(and plus i dont like front wheel drive =p ahah any one can tell you that!) well if you get an evo its a well proven car and has plenty of aftermarket options. being a car lover as my self its always fun to work on your car and make it better or what not. so my vote goes for the evo but this is your money so do what you want. you obviously want something with some speed because your choices are a turboed ss cobalt or a evo if u weren't u would just go buy a beater DD.

I would go for the the evo even though it has some miles cause in the long run how much potential the cars have out weighs purchase price and miles.I would however get an outside mechanic to look at the evo before you buy due to the clutch and lubrication issues evos have in the 30 to 40 thousand mile range
I'm not really sure why you are writing the Mazdaspeed3 off so quickly. I just urge you to try one out IF you can't get the EVO. They are no more difficult to work on then the Cobalt IMOP. The only thing that is complicated about them is the intercooler placement on the top of the engine. Otherwise an engine is an engine and compact cars have all the same **** crammed into the engine bay. The aftermarket option for it are plentiful (Corksport, COBB). Again, my 0.02...

meh im just not into mazdas.... a girl has a mazda3 down the street and i think the cobalt is more appealing. the only mazda i like is the mazada6.... thats just my 2 cents......realistically after t/t/l and financing and all that crap is done on the cobalt it comes out to 25500 after 5 years of payments. not bad considering sticker is higher then that and invoice is about 24900.
WoW... asked on an Evo site, its gonna be hard getting a nonbiased info. Let me whack at it being non-evo member here.
Advantages for the Cobalt... ITS NEW! If you dont mind used cars, then it shouldnt bother you... but some people mind. Also its redone and Chevy left the supercharger and turbo'd this beeotch. Conclusion - greater performance from previous model. NOW. If modded correctly these cars can potentially eat Evo's and STi's and S2K's and Z's on some tracks. They are light and need a driver that can manage oversteer, car being FWD.
This can also be a disadvantage. As people say FWD<AWD<RWD (
) it all depends on the situation haha... Highway runs and certain tracks you can excel. Its also cheap to mod and pretty much like a toy.
If it was me? JDM. Period. Theres only one sportscar chevy makes and thats the vette (maybe camaro ss coming in soon). Cobalt is American and American turns me way off. Its an American ricer.
I would love to own one, but not over an Evo or Z. Cobalts got no heritage or histroy and it's the low class of chevy (thats pretty low). However I would love to have a project car Cobalt and tastefully mod it. They are incredibly underrated and big time sleepers (especially if your first mods aren't HIDs and body kits).
I would choose it over a used Evo if it was my daily... if it was a track/project/extra car I would take the Evo and completely strip it and start ground up - inside out.
In the end its all you man, GL.

I know there are many variables on the region, driver and so forth but out of curiosity is the Cobalt SS cheaper on insurance than the older Evo would be?
I was just thinking about it and didn't know if the Cobalt being an American car would be less or the Evo since it is an older car would be.

cobalts suck they are pieces of **** like most chevy cars.
for that price u can get a new 08 wrx i know the new one is better but costs more. ive seen alot of 08's go for 20k new in chicagoland since the 09s are better. hands down much better car than that ****box of a cobalt.
if its fwd performance and a good dd you want i would go with a golf gti or ms3 even a srt4. not to mention they all will hold their value over the chevy.
25k is alot of money for a cobalt imo. i paid 19k for my evo 8 so i cant justify spending more than the 10g that cobalt will b worth the second u take it home with u.
only thing i would buy from chevy is a vette or a pickuptruck.
