Noob, 17 year old, want EVO BAD!
Hey man. I just turned 17 about a week ago and just picked up a brand new GG Evo X MR. I would highly suggest it. It doesn't matter how old you are. If you want it then get it.. I did. And BTW I live in JErsey also. Where abouts do you live?
I would go with a viii just because they are cheaper and less for you. I am 18 years old and drive a '05 VIII and i do pay for it myself, but the main thing is responsibility. You cant think you are responsible enough to have something like this, you have to act it. You cant drive like an idiot because you drive an evo. I used to have a goped also, but you cant drive the same as on that because a car is a lot faster and something could happen so fast. My point is, you can be young and drive a fast car, just be responsible because you are risking your life along with others. Be safe and good luck finding something!
And even for me, my first car was a 1997 Eclipse RS, I learned how to drive stick and i started modding with a turbo kit and what not.

your not going to get a Evo X or Mr for under 25k unless its salvaged or used heavly with issues and tons of miles. I say get a beater car like a honda civic or Rsx type s and work on that car fix it up turbo it whatever get used to driving that around town and modding to get experence modding in general then go out and get that evo a year or two later .
17 yr old trying to get an Evo in NJ?? haha Have fun trying to find "decent" price car insurance...EVEN if you have no points on your license and your under your parents plan...
my mom added me to her policy i only pay 60 bucks for my insurance and im with allstate and i have 2 tickets..l0l theyre only fix it tickets one just becouse the cop seen the shiny up ic pipe and wow made a big deal outa that another one for not having my fron plate..l0l but to come back to topic i got my evo when i was 17 06 evo 9 SE my clutch went out at 13k and it did leave a 12 hundred doller whole in my poket so yeah theyre are not cheap and leaves u without a car for about a month if u take it to tunnin tech!!..=/ but yeah im bearly gona turn 19 and i have my dream car..=] good luck JACX920 im sure u can get the evo mr with tht 20k u have down just get your parent to cosign thats what i did my mom qualified for 0% so i got a pretty cool deal got my brand new 06 evo 9 SE for 36k prety expensive car but well worth it..i dont regret it one bit!!..
17?! I'm turning 21 soon and I even think that I'm too young to be in an Evo sometimes. There's a reason why insurance is extremely expensive for drivers under the age of 25.
As other posters have said, I strongly urge you to learn to drive stick before you even consider looking at an Evo. And drive stick for a couple of years, too. The Evo is not a first car; you most certainly will do stupid **** to it.

I say wait!! Buy like a 240 or civic mod the hell out of it then move on. The last thing you want is to be living for a dam car!!! Thats what will happen at 22k 400 bucks a month plus insure. There is no money even left to mod imo. Just wait. Ive seen evos for 15k now. I paid 32k for my 9 mr and 30k for my sti. Just hold on to your money for a while
wow thanks for all the replies guys it really helped alot, i'm glad I didn't jump into it...
the thing is like I said before, I am going to college in 2 years, and that isn't going to be enough time for me to save up money from buying a beater car (around 10-15k) then sell it, then get enough money back to get an evo...
I'm pretty sure I'm going to go straight for it...
and with that said obviously I won't have enough money for mods and fixes and ****...
so I will just have to drive safely and cautiously...
Also with the manual problem I guess I am going to have to get an auto, cause I can't be learning to drive stick and take the risk of crashing/ ****ing up the clutch...
so I guess my options are RA or evo MR...
I hope in 2 months I can find a nasty deal on one or the other...
thanks again guys, and you will be seeing me again soon.
EDIT- for whoever asked where I live, Millburn/Short Hills

Okay seriously, first and foremost, learn how to drive a manual. An Evo isn't really the car you want to learn how to drive a manual on. You'll especially be kicking yourself in the butt when you realize how quickly you burnt out your clutch from just learning how to drive on it and how much your about to be raped because Evo clutches and flywheels are by no means cheap.
Trust me I know, I just replaced my clutch and flywheel on my Evo.
Second of all, I think its cool you want an Evo as your first official car and what not, but get past the hype of an Evo and do some serious research about them. I can't stress that enough! The more knowledge you are armed with the better. Also keep in mind its an Evo, a performance car, and most used ones are usually abused in some sort of way. So there again do your research first.
Third I wouldn't be so cocky about not being worried about insurance. Insurance on an Evo is by no means cheap, and with your age thats definitely going to effect your rate. I'm 24 yrs old and my insurance on my 05 Evo VIII GSR is literally raping me. I hate how much I pay, I won't lie, but I did my research first and got an estimate from my insurance before I even bought my Evo. Crunched some numbers and made sure with payments, insurance, and maintenance and extra money for if something went wrong; I'd still be able to afford an Evo.
I'm not going to sit here and bash or flame you on this thread. I know what its like to want what you want and be so determined you won't stop at anything to get it. I'm also not saying your too young to have an Evo, but let me tell you first handle, if you've never been in a performance car of this sort.. your bond to get cocky and stupid. Do you really want to chance that with a 30 thousand dollar Evo?
Personally, I agree with some of the other response. Get a beater car for now thats a manual. Learn how to drive a manual and drive one well. Save money where you can so you can afford your Evo X a little while from now. There still very new and the price tag on the is by no means cheap. Don't give up on your dream to own an Evo X, just postpone it a little while longer... you won't regret it.
And if nothing else consider this.. with the way the economy is and how retarded some people drive, can you truly afford for Evo if say you got into an accident or got a ticket? Both will end up effecting your insurance rate. Or what if you lost your job, do you really want to see your Evo got repo if you can't find another job to start making payments again? I know a buddy on another forum, had a black Lancer, lost his job and his Lancer went to repo. Now he's broken hearted and seriously depressed.
Be smart, do your research and don't jump the gun on anything.

I know you said that you are patient and people are going to say you are to young and to immature and while I don't know you to say any different, I will say you are 17 and ALL 17 year olds are to immature to have a car like this. The simple fact that you brag about how you raced in the past and this and that only drives this point home further. Experience at a track is NOT experience on the street and vice versa. Even a Ralliart will be to much temptation for you and the insurance will still be likely wayyyyyyyyyy high. I know it sucks being younger and wanting a fast car, but if you were so mature you would realize that you can't handle the money it costs and the insurance, even if your Dad does pay it and you would be better off getting something less extreme as a first car.
I welcome all guys into their first Evo and if you do get one then congrats and i'll welcome you too, but i'm 31 this year and I remember how I was at 17 and that was immature, over eager, horny, angry and stupid.
