My first car was a Toyota Rav4 then I drove a Lancer (stick) for 6-8 months before finally getting my Evo IX. After a couple of months, I eventually crashed my Evo.

Evos are serious machines and I learned the hard way. If ever you do get the X right now, I sincerely hope you've done all the research (and practice) needed. Good luck with your decision!

PS Before I crashed my car, I also proclaimed to be "patient", "mature" and one who "knows my limits".

i think Jehuty was saying to WORK to pay for the service, the beater ,etc.

If you drop that much dime on a car with NO money let over for when it breaks, where does that leave you-SOL (sh|t outta luck)!
Evos are expensive to both service, and MAINTAIN. Hell, a oil change runs you over $60 bucks at a dealer, even IF you bring your own fluids (pricey because of synthetic). Thats why i usually do oil changes myself.
This also applies for Audi's, any high performance vehicle pretty much! They are costly to bu, so they are costly to fix! Another thing is with the Evo X only being out for a year, replacement parts for body panels and such are quite expensive.

Think about it practically and realistically, it makes no sense to blow ALL your money on a car with NOTHING left over for service, gas, basic oil changes-

ALSO i just realized you would probably have to buy a set or winter tires RIGHT off the bat-theres a LARGE chunk of change right there.

Good luck with your choice, i just hope that you make a educated, smart, and most of all MATURE decision (so that you can stand true to your claims in the first post of the thread)

Get a Ralliart for now. You can get a new one, get the SST, the Evo 9 running gear, and the TTP is making some good power with them now. Plenty of car to start, close to the X in looks and really good power for a first time driver. I would never recommend any EVO for a first time driver, especially if you have never driven a stick shift. There is just too much attention needed with a car of this ability for a young driver.

Of course I am old enough to be your dad, so that may explain my fatherly advice.

My list of cars goes like this.

79 Ford F 150 XLT Ranger Lariat with 35" Gumbo Monster mudders.
73 Monte Carlo
79 Olds Cutlass
81 Trans Am
87 IROC Z
94 Grand Prix
86 Toyota pickup 5 speed
01 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 TRD
02 Infinity I 35
03 Sequoia SR5 4x4
06 Honda Ridgeline
91 Accord EX Coupe 5 speed (filler while I looked for a used X)
08 Evo X GSR (used with 4k miles for 24k with SSS)

PLUS play toys in the garage: 72 Corvette (under restoration)
72 Buick Skylark 462 CI Big Block Buick

So I am used to plenty of performance and high powered cars, and I daily drive my X. I drive sanely and would never let a 17 year old drive that car. Too much speed, brakes, cornering for a novice driver.

I guess I should get a beater, but once I buy a 5k beater, how the **** am I going to make 5k back without a job?
when you think of something get back at me

@04EBevo- I love Audis, I love their looks and style. I honestly have never heard of terrible quality problems/reliability issues with Audi...
I have a Consumer report thingy and the Audi A4 is a top 3 luxury sedan, I don't think the S4 could be that far off since it's an upgrade of the A4...
no job?! theres no way in hell you are going to be able to maintain an evo...dream on kid. dream on.

I suggest you research the vehicle your interested in a little more! Not to get on such a pointless topic or BASH you like everyone else hear but make sure you REALLY know what your talking about before you state that on this forum. Ummm, I had a feeling this post was gonna get outta hand but I am sure most did too. Seriously do what you think is best and hopefully you won't have to learn from your mistakes...
