bro wait, seriously, my first car was 1987 supra turbo that I got when I was 14, I literally pushed it over on 4 donuts from my neighbors back yard after I completely repainted her house inside and out and built her a shed, she just gave me the car, I spent 2 years working on it and daily drove it for my last 2 years of high school. Insurance sucked dick on that car and it was over 20 years old, and you're expecting to afford insurance on an evo? I still have the supra, it's 1.5JZ swapped and it's a weekend/racetrack only fun car, fully street legal, but not daily driven, I have a galant that I daily drive now, my advice, get a rock, something ****ty with a 5 speed, and learn to drive it, I just turned 19, I have paid for all my insurance since I was 16 years old, not only that, but I can' imagine you making car payments on the thing, unless of course mommy and daddy are paying for everything, in which case, have fun wasting your parent's money. Take your time, learn how to really drive, and then get your dream car, I went the backwards route and got my dream car first, and it was a royal pain in the ***. Not trying to be a dick, just speaking from personal experience

I agree with getting a beater first, although that's not what i did. Get a car that you can learn stick on, and not worry about it if you burn the clutch a few times. I Learned to drive stick on my uncles mustang when i was 15. And when i turned 16, had enough to get the R32, it was/is my first car, and i love it, but looking back, starting out on something else might have been a better idea, i def. wouldn't have wanted to learn on the R. GL with whatever you get and remember, for a 17 year old, an evo (or even a ralliart) is an expensive car, prepare to get a lot of **** from haters As for me, i say if you got the $$ to get it, go for it, and **** all the haters who are pissed because they had to wait til they were 30 to get an evo

I agree with the beater argument. I had a stock 68 mustang for a first car with manual drum brakes all around, that kept the speed down as I knew I couldnt stop for ****...

I would never recommend any EVO for a first time driver, especially if you have never driven a stick shift. There is just too much attention needed with a car of this ability for a young driver.

Of course I am old enough to be your dad, so that may explain my fatherly advice.

My list of cars goes like this.

79 Ford F 150 XLT Ranger Lariat with 35" Gumbo Monster mudders.
73 Monte Carlo
79 Olds Cutlass
81 Trans Am
87 IROC Z
94 Grand Prix
86 Toyota pickup 5 speed
01 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 TRD
02 Infinity I 35
03 Sequoia SR5 4x4
06 Honda Ridgeline
91 Accord EX Coupe 5 speed (filler while I looked for a used X)
08 Evo X GSR (used with 4k miles for 24k with SSS)

PLUS play toys in the garage: 72 Corvette (under restoration)
72 Buick Skylark 462 CI Big Block Buick

So I am used to plenty of performance and high powered cars, and I daily drive my X. I drive sanely and would never let a 17 year old drive that car. Too much speed, brakes, cornering for a novice driver.
Damn... You been around the block a bit I will agree. I'd definitely take advice from an older person who has experience with cars. Unlike MY dad, who has had like 4 cars and he is 60, and dont know **** from salad about newer cars. I told him I bent my downpipe heat shield, he asked what a downpipe is... so I told hima nd he was like wtf downpipe? thats a header connector...........

17yo + Evo = Evo wrapped around a pole, and hurt if not dead driver.

Master your skills and maturity (not saying that you aren't) before you take the plunge.

Good luck

Wait, so you can't spend more than $15k but you are going to go look at a ~$24k car

why do you think he is inexperienced driver, just because he cant drive stick? there are professional race car drivers who are 18.

oh god another young kid forum...... mods why dont you just open a section for these kids to post... seriously everytime i come on-line, some kids is pouring his heart out t about how he wants an evo more than breathing oxygen.... stop the madness... i don't wanna hear it anymore... take your dramatic issues away from the forum and take it right over to your rich daddies.... we all know that it is nearly impossible for a 17-18 with an entry-level job or two, without college experience to afford an evo... so please stop the , I earned all my money speeches, cause in reality it just makes me wanna blow my brains out... Tell your dad to buy u an m3 and when u crash that your survival rate will increase as i am sure it has better than a 2-star crash rating...
