Does it really REQUIRE synthetic oil

The oil cap on the evo says mobil 1 synthetic oil 5w-30

Is it a MUST to run synthetic oil?
Is there anyone that is running conventional oil in their evo? Is 10w-40 too thick for it?

Just run what it says. But NO, it doesnt HAVE to run synthetic.

Either run Mobile 1 or AmsOil. Im sure there will be alot more people who say i run this and that.

If you want to be a cheap @$$, buy a civic, and run the cheap crap or dont change your oil at all.

Cheers

Yeah, don't be cheap with your oil lol.
I personally think for our turbocharged cars 5w-40 is really good you could try it.
Like the other guy said, Mobil 1 Syn or amsoil

Your turbo is oil and water cooled. The cheaper the oil, the faster it will lose its lubricating ability.

Like others have said, if you want to cheap out buy a civic.

Yes, as the above says, turbo cars break down oil really fast. A good synthetic keeps it's properties in the heat generated in the turbo.

Sure, you can run a conventional oil, but you'd want to change it every 2000 miles or so to keep your engine healthy. There isn't really any cost savings at that point, and there is never any benefit of "more protection" or anything at any point. with conventional oil.

It's not a MUST to buy an Evolution, but you made that choice.

as the above threads have mentioned...fully synthetic Mobile One is not really expensive...and relative cheap insurance for an Evo engine

You can buy 5 quarts of mobil one at wal mart for $22 worth every penny. I run royal purple, but would recommend amsoil as well. Mitsu says 10W-30 but that is based on climate conditions, thinner oil when its cold, thicker when hot, I run 10W-30 year round. In answer to your question, yes it is required to run full synthetic, mitsu put it in from the factory for a reason and it is not okay to switch from synthetic to petroleum based oil. Just my 0.02
