okay i thought id post an update on here.

my car started making a whining noise just short of the free 60 day warranty which expires next week. i figured it was the transfer case on the way out haha. so i took it to the dealership and left it to the genious honda mechanics to figure it out. i stop by about 6 hours later and they tell me that the noise im hearing is the turbo and that if i take the turbo off the noise will stop.

so i said, no....i know the difference between a turbo and a transfercase whine, so i take the mechanic for a drive and point out the noise to him and i leave it with them for another 4 hours. i come back to find that several mechanics drove the car and came to the conclusion that it was indeed the ttrasnfer case. so they will find me a price tomorrow for a new transfer case and it SHOULD be covered by the warranty haha. im glad this happened soon. after the 60 day warranty im still covered but ill have to pay a $250 deductible. im excited to be getting a new transfercase for free! and then im off to JMS next weekend for a tune.

im a little upset that they went through almost half a tank of gas and stained my floor mats, so ill for sure complain about this when i drop the car off to be repaired.

so you guys were right about the warranty, sure enough the transfercase started to whine on me within the 60 day warranty. So i take it in, they replace the transfer case and then call me to say the transfer case they got was bad, so they order another transfer case and they replace the transmission as well because they said there was another strange noise coming form the input shaft or something. I bought a clutch while the transmission was off so they could replace it. Well.. one and a half months later i pick up the car. drive it for a couple of days and find that the noise is actually louder than before, so i took it right back in.

They called me today to say that it was an "axle shaft". and they are getting it rebuilt, i doubt an axle can make such a loud noise .heres a short video of the noise,

My question is, is there any laws that say i can return the car or do something about this, im tired of dealing with this BS and these mechanics that cant tell a pressure plate apart from a clutch disk.

Sounds very frustrating, but as long as they're installing brand new parts under warranty.. I'd say let them keep going. Maybe you'll get the entire drive train replaced, maybe even a new engine

Well sounds like a good deal, but if you didn't get that warranty you'd be out alot of money. let them fix everything. The more they fix the less itll cost you in the long run. Keep us updated

Ya just wait it out, when I bought a cobalt ss (ya I know) it was in for a whole 2 months getting a trans b.c the lady that ordered the car test drove it and didn't know how to drive and 2nd and 3rd was toast. So I bought it dirt cheap. Just hang in there man its a evo not a cobalt you'll be ok.

thanks, i was also thinking about cancelling the extended warranty with the lithia dealership and purchasing my own warranty with my credit union. this way i can take the car anywhere i want to be repaired.

So far ive gotten a transmission and transfer case, tie rod end, alignment, and clutch job for free. now ill have a free axle shaft rebuild. the transmission and transfer case are used btw.

i talked to the dealership on friday, and they said that it was a part of the driveshaft causing the noise. is this possible? its a pretty loud whine, they said that they order a "coupler" or something along those lines for it, and it should be here monday, so maybe tomorrow it will be done. but ive not heard of a driveshaft making a whining noise, what do you guys think?

Hey man I got a question for you. I saw that when you originally posted your question, many people told you to stay away from it for various reason. Looking back at the situation, do you regret buying this one instead of continuing the search for another one? I ask just because it might help someone else in the future since this is the noob section.

By the way I think I would of been going thru the same thing as you because at that price, I would of definately bought it also! but then again i'm also a noob.

i dont regret buying it, i love the car. its the service im dissatisfied with. im glad i got the warranty too. theres another lithia dealership nearby and i plan on taking it to them next time around because this dealership takes too long to do anything and their techs suck.
