I just picked up an 8 about 4 weeks ago and its been great but now im starting to notice a few noises, im not sure if they are normal. If im cruising at about 4k rpm in any gear, and then i let off the gas and leave the car in gear, i can hear a grinding noise. not sure where its coming from, another thing is if the car is in neutral and the clutch pedal is not pushed in, i can hear a very slight grinding noise also, and when i push the clutch in, the noise stops. Theres no slippage of the clutch whatsoever. i found some repair reciepts from the previous owner and it says something about flywheel studs, or maybe just the flywheel.. any ideas?

i just picked up an 03 about 3 weeks ago and im having the same thing goin on with my car. when its in neutral i hear the same noise that you are talkin about. your car my have an upgraded clutch in it is why its doing that cuz mine has a stage 2 exedy clutch in it so that may be what our problem is but to be honest i really dont know for sure.

 

or maybe we have aftermarket flywheels? i talked to the shop that did the work and they said the customer had provided the flywheel so maybe its aftermarket.

the clutch noise is pretty normal, but the other kinda concerns me. find out where its coming from.

 

it sounds like its coming from the transmission but i have no idea. its worrying me.
