GSC S2 cam?

Can you run S2 cams on stock valvetrain without the aftermarket springs and retainers? I know it is not recomended but i dont plan on running more than 8200rpm so im not sure i need them.

But yes its not recommended to run it that way. Keep the boost down and the revs near the stock redline for the longest valvespring life. Keep in mind it can still fail though.

i am about to purchase these cams for my ix, i plan to keep my limiter at stock and the car rarely sees rpm's that high anyway. on 23psi would it be that much of a gamble?? thanks (also not trying to highjack i think it applies to the original question)

Im looking to run 25psi on a black to 8000rpm and a limiter at 8200. Just looking for some advice from shops with experiance or other evo owners running this setup.

good question man... if ur running on a fpblack setup, then i would highly suggest getting the beehive springs along with ur s2 cams... how can u say ur not going to be reving high with a fpblack setup though... most power is gained from top end and isnt 8200rpm already passed redline?!? dont take any chances bro, save and do it right or enjoy for a short time and pay alot more later... thats my 0.02

I dont want to take the motor apart untill im ready to build it, so im trying not to have to do things twice. I may just go S1s for now.

aight bro... but even gsc s1's are recommended not to rev over 8k with factory springs... they would however be a better option than the s2's if ur gona keep the factory springs on (for now)... good luck with the cams...

sooner or later the additional valvetrain acceleration will where the springs and they will begin to float. this is generally made worse by 2 things, high rpm or high boost. Since most Evos do both especially with larger cams and a bigger turbo it will eventually cause the springs to start to go down hill.

10 hours? Wow, we charge 260 to do springs and dont pull the head to do it. I can understand your hesitation in not wanting to do it, anyone around you that has DSM experience?
