I wouldn't worry about the maintenance issue on the Evo.

The thing to worry about is modding. You start and before you know it you are easily deep $2k and more more more more...

I think this here is what causes a cycle of maintance in the future for the evo..I experienced it first hand with my X. My VIII not so much.
