My wife's STi is a WAY better daily then my Evo 9. Not sure how much more tame the Evo X is. I would assume its pretty close.

Just lol......if you spend any time whatsoever over at nasoic/iwsti, you would know just how this is not the case. They rattle and rock with the best of them...

Are the new STI's still plagued by the ringland issue?

From a purely economic standpoint, your better off keeping the EVO. Trading your car in, you are losing money. You already have money invested in the EVO and have it closer to being paid off then you would a new car. Sell the Civic outright and put that money in the bank.

I have owned an STi, they rattle also.

I'm about to trade-in my EVO soon also. I've had mine 3.5 years which is a record for me - I usually flip my car every 2 years. The EVO's been great and I'll miss it!

The short-list for my next car:
* 2013 Audi S4
* 2012 STI or 2013 WRX
* 2013 Golf R (but I'd have to upgrade right away with APR stage 1+)
* 2012 BMW 135i

The one thing I won't miss with the EVO - lack of storage space - the car handles better than anything I've ever owned (see my sig - I've owned several fun cars). But there's been many times I just needed room to carry stuff and couldn't take the EVO. And that's why the STI or WRX hatchback is on the list. (and I know - the 135i would have the same storage problems as the EVO ... and I know the stock Golf R is underpowered ...).

The S4 is top on the list but there is a 3-4 month wait for that unless I can find one on the lot (just starting looking, nothing in the color or configuration I want). The Subaru STI or WRX are second.

I used to have a 2005 WRX and loved that car -- fun -- rock solid - trouble-free. So that left a good impression of Subaru for me.

I love my evo x. I did however grow up wanting the 03 bugeye, so i've always been looking at the subie, but when i was in afghanistan my buddy started showing me his evo 9 and had me start doing some research, it was all downhill from there. Hands down i would never give up my evo. And besides, you already have the evo, like others have said, your going to lose money by trading it and getting a subie. If the daily drivabilty is an issue with your evo then throw some stock parts back on(blastphemy i know lol) In any case, it's your decision and yours alone...to the dark side you must not fall haha.

I changed from 2 STI's to an EVO 9 and I have to say, I would rather have an STI. In the long run it all depends on your plans for if you are wanting to modify or just stay stock? IMO the STI is easier to work on. This is a very controversial topic but everything easy to do on a EVO is hard on a STI and everything easy on a STI is hard on a EVO. I can take out an STI ej257 engine while making modifications and put it back in before a great mechanic can get a EVO 4G63 out as a long block. I've done both many times many different ways trying to cut corners to save time, but while doing it all correctly at the same time. In the end it's about what you want but my EVO has a long list of mods with a fully built MAP short block, 272 cams, beehive springs, FP black DBB, and much much more. In the end I live in central CA with only ****ty 91 oct making a whopping 405whp. I did all this for 500 minimal, but life goes on. With the STI's I had they were built too and with them I enjoyed everything about them. And they IMO were easier to work on. Go with the STI. If you want it to last, leave it stock or tune it modestly. Good luck

hmm..

Evo IX to a STI is a big difference as far as interior and comfort creatures. And I would side on the STI.

Evo X to an STI is a totally different animal.

Before I bought my X I tried the STI sedan .. And to be honest I was dissapointed in the newer STI's interior and well overall looks. I miss the bug eyed look and well the interior is not that much better than Evo's. The truth of the matter if I was worried about interiors I would've gotten a BMW 135 lol.

I guess in the end it all comes down to personal preference.

i have a 2011 wrx hatch and an evo 9. wrx is the daily driver. evo is the track car. wrx hatch is great for a dd. they are good in the snow with a set of snow tires. you can fit tons of stuff in the car. the stock suspension was better than the last model but left a little to be desired. add some springs and sways and its decent. the evo was much nicer to drive from factory for short distances. i dont like sitting in the seats for more than an hour. the subie is the one i would recomend for utility. the evo for fun.

I'm a bigger fan of the bugeye but I like the 04/07 STI's the most. Looking at the interior of an Evo 06 and older is not much different than that of a regular Lancer. They look the same. At least when you get into an STI you feel like your getting what you paid for when seeing the interior. For an exception on the Evo, it seems to always have better seats.

No it's not a plague. It's improper tunning. A stock block can Handel 500whp using the right fuel and tune. A buddy of mine has an 05 STI running a 30r turbo kit and a turbo back exhaust. His complete long block is oem. Even using the stock TVG's On CA 91oct he's at 398whp and on C16 he's at 503whp, tuned in L.A. By Yimi sport tunning. He put over 60k on it running that kit and sold it. It's still running great today. All about the tune.

New does not include 2005 year models. New is talking the past few years, and their stock ringland on cylinder 4 keeps failing, and the only way around it is to go aftermarket, therefore, rendering your warranty as null.

The new ones if left stock have issues.
