Potential Evo buyer (vs sti)

Hey everyone, hows it going?
Been a car guy for a while, mostly a subie guy but cant deny what an evo has to offer. Consquently most of my research has been about subaru. It would be a daily, tracked/autox during the summer and snow hooning during the winter. Plan would be bolt ons, cams (+/- heads), relatively everything suspension except coilovers as the roads around me are absolutely crap. Few questions, please excuse me if i havent found the proper thread for a question. I've been doing a fair amount of searching and reading the past few days

How is it at highway crusing? I do a lot of it and i know the gears are short (any MR near me is way too much)

Nasioc is incredibly noob friendly, a user has "manifesto" of all these subaru based mod FAQs. Wondering if im missing that sort of FAQ here? Or another evo site? (I havent checked out evotuners yet) Nasioc in general seems to be more formal and informative.

Any diagrams? i.e where the O2 sensors maf map etc. Obviously a book somewhere that id have to buy or do more digging

How do ewg set ups work on this car? Or does the iwg hold and not allow overboosting?

Finally, likes and dislikes about the car? The slightest opinions are all welcomed

Again, please excuse my lack of knowledge on the car and the forums.
-Thanks, Tommy

Your're probably thinking to much....

Before I bought mine, I looked at wrx v evo, I found a low mile wrx 2013 with major bolt ons making about 380whp on pump and the guy wanted 30,000 AUD and I found another 2013 wrx with low miles for 27,000 AUD, then I started researching on here about how Evo's have forged internals and the 2013 wrx don't but the old STIs 1999 ones do, I looked at the old STIs which were all flogged to death. Then I started reading about how standard block Evo's are good for 400hp and above and DDing and all the DIY tuning tips on here to help with room to stroke if you want to go further. Then I noticed everytime I went out for a drive I saw at lease 10 to 20 wrx's and no Evo's. I even test drove a 2015 wrx and now there are hundreds on the road....carrying about 200lbs more then the old ones. The minute I sat in a tuned Evo 8MR with coil overs and hit boost, I just had to have one, this I can't explain but when you go out for a drive and see other Evo's you wave and flash the lights, its like a special community of enthusiasts carrying the can from a bygone era.......you'll know what I mean when you get one.

I appreciate the input. Never been in one and only a "stage 2" sti. Lots and lots of subies around here all with the same downpipe catback bov setup

The STi requires twice the effort to work on for most parts than the Evo for similar mods. Plus I remember reading somewhere, mod for mod, you'll get more power out of an Evo than an STi. Plus you don't have to worry about the ringland failures.

Get the Evo

My friend bought an STI I bought an evo, he regrets buying it to this day. STI's are better in the snow im pretty sure. Evos are more modable (faster). In the end its your choice, they are both great cars.

appreciate all the input. cant be much worse than my tbss in the snow lol. ringland failure is fairly uncommon despite popular belief. Also didn't come in until 07 when the epa changed things up and subaru had to go from forged pistons to hypereutetic pistons. I was i prefer the rice box hood scoop and wing of 04-07 anyway. to be fair (even though im gonna go evo) stis dont have the drivetrain issues regarding the tcase and what not. Not to mention the 6 MT is good up to 600whp. Nonetheless i pick evo and am about to make a post to try to get some opinions on a specific one if anyone would wanna comment on that. Thanks again.

I've owned both and I think the EVO is better than the STI in the end.
