Engine swap

Has anyone thought about, seen, or heard of any engine swap options for the U.S lancer yet?

no i havent and in my opinion its not worth it. a turbo from rrm will give you over 220 hp for $5000, where say a 4g63 motor is only gonna give you about 160 hp for prolly 12000 dollors. it jus aint worth it.

$12,000, wtf are you talking about? LOL

You could throw in the 4G69 from the Lancer Ralliart (162hp)
A 4G63 from a US Evolution (271hp)
Probablt the 4G92 Mivec (Would need to import from outside the US) but I'm not sure on the difference in Motor Mounts. (175hp)

Turbo'ing your 4G94 would be your best bet, however. Though I think $5000 in an insane price. Piece together your own kit, have the pipes custom made, and you could do it for less than half of that.

Regulator what YOU talkin' 'bout?! None of those options would work. Three letters: E.C.U. Our ECU wouldn't know what the eff to do with a Mivec. And how are you gonna drop an AWD tranny into a FWD car? We've established there's no room for the rear driveshaft.
What about starter locations? What about mating the engine to the tranny?.......

There's one guy I've heard of that's tried an engine swap. He's in Texas and has spent like $10Gs trying to get his regular lancer to be a baby-Evo. That was two years ag and all he had to show for it was two car shells, three torn apart engines, a few trannys and a much lighter wallet.

Sorry to feed a repost Hobie.... can we set the forums up so newbies CAN'T make "new" topics?

Ok....

#1 - If you're going to swap engines I would hope to God you are smart enough to swap EVERYTHING, including the ECU that corresponds with that engine. I don't know why anyone would try running an engine with a different ECU. That's like only doing half the job.

#2 - This person in Tx is a moron. Come on down to www.mirageforums.net and talk to people who have put EVO engines into their FWD Mirage. And the 1998 Galant EA2A fwd gearbox mates to it soooooo there goes that problem.

So in conclusion, think before you post plz.

You'll notice the question stops at asking about the engine, and doesn't take into account the tranny, wiring, etc. I felt the need to elucidate the breadth of the task the poster was proposing.

If your solution in #2 is valid for the Lancer as it has been for the mirage (I'll take your word for it, since you a) drive a mirage and b) remember that there's a mirage forum) then that invalidates all other "engine swap" threads I've read where it becomes nigh impossible based on not being able to mate a tranny.
I'm not sure that finding a tranny that mates solves all the problems, but it's a good start. Also running a search on Galant and transmission or tranny yields very few results regarding engine swaps. See the link below

FWIW the guy in Tx was trying to do a FWD to AWD conversion using an Evo powerplant, IIRC. I'm not arguing whether he's a moron
