POP mode doesn't stand up in court. The X50 is good, though, so no real loss.

/bump to TsPlayer. I have used my Valentine 1 (4 months old) in a variety of cars from my 325i BMW to my EVO, to family SUV. Nothing compares to the range of detection and directional indicators on the V1.

If it's radar, it's still the same as if it's in a car - for it to work, the plane/helicopter would have to be nearly level with the ground. If it's timed (VASCAR), look for the huge stripes across the highway.

anymore x50 users?
I run the x50 due to the new lasers/radars being used by the local fuzzie ones. I'm quite happy with it, and it as saved me on at least 4 occassions since I got it about a month ago.

Yeah...tell that to the cop who supposedly 'clocked' me for 10 over, when I was doing 5 UNDER, and traffic passing me. With a 'witness' in the car, the 'judge' ruled against me.

For that reason, my father who (religiously) goes the speed limit, and NEVER has had a ticket in his life, said, "Son, get a radar detector." So...that if I'm going 5 over, and can for sure being going 5 under when I actually get radared by the cop.

BTW I got an 8500 almost four years ago, and REALLY like it. Its saved me numerous times.

Cheers,

jcnel.

You guys need to order a book called "case dismissed" (also sold under the TIPMRA name) Basically, it advocates attacking the calibration of the radar unit, and generally goes against every Urban Legend that tells you how to beat a ticket. The above is a good example: you could have 50 independent witnesses and if that's all you've got you lose. Why? Police officers are agents of the court, and in the court's eyes that cop is the same as the judge hearing your case. As far as the court's concerned that cop is an expert in the use of that radar gun and everything s/he says is God's own truth... you're guilty unless you prove you're innocent, or at least that their foundation is faulty. Sorry. It also advocates NOT telling your side. Why? Because "Anything you say can be used agianst you in a court of law" and the 5th Amendment states that you don't have to testify against yourself (you basically tell the judge you respectfully decline to testify).... It's a good read, and like I said, I'll let you know if it works

Dude, I've had a V1 since I got my 350Z in October of 02. It is the shnit. The directional arrows, the range that it has - incredible. It has paid for itself MANY times over. As for POP radar, I don't even know what that is referring to - I have been lasered thrice, and "instant on'd" twice (is that "POP") with Ka band staties - and even then I managed to get off of it enough to where I ended up - with no ticket!

The instant on laser/ka band cops might have seen my brake lights flash and my nose dip - but... no tickets, man.

And if it's some po-dunk dip**** county mounty sitting in the median with his K band on - you'll know he's there a mile before you see him, if you're in relatively flat country. Just be aware of the overpasses (for the lasers) and the dips where they can hide with the instant on stuff.

I don't work for them, no affiliation - but I say buy the V1.

POP mode is a burst mode used on the BEE III radar gun. It basically works by bypassing the brief warmup phase a normal "instant-on" gun uses and sending a pulse so short that the electronics in detectors can't even discern it. The problem is that the electronics in the gun can't react quick enough, and give a lot of erroneous reads. Basically, it goes against pretty much everything legal and technical that issuing speeding citations is based on; if you have a detector and it doesn't go off and you get pulled over, you should find out what type of gun was used. If it's a BEE III, go to court. The BEE III's POP mode is not even backed by the manufacturer; it's impossible to calibrate and has huge errors, but cops like it because it "beats" detectors. Do a Google search and you'll find a lot of good info; there's good writeups on radartest.com and valentine's site.

I just call a lawyer down near Ft. Worth ... $30 later and I don't have to worry about it. Got nabbed for 53 in a 40 a few weeks ago ... wasn't even trying to speed.
