Hi guys,

I'm 42. I've had my share of fun cars. I've also had a few radar detectors. My personal opinion based on actual use is that the arrows are great and the V1 detector is one of the best on the market.

Recent case in point. I'm coming back from Phoenix last week. A vette is running with me. My detector gets a faint KA beep and an arrow pointing back. Nothing in sight, but i get in the right lane and let the vette go on. A mile or so later another KA beep stronger. In my rearview I finally see the patrol. He goes past me about 90mph. A few miles up the road the vette is pulled over.

This detector is the best in my opinion because of the directional arrows. Trust me, once you have them, you don't want to give them up.

Purchase both and use them. V1 will refund your money if you don't like it. No questions asked.

Have fun and be safe.

George

Radar test articles

Most of these articles are written by retailers who sell detectors. V1's can only be purchased by V1. They don't allow retailers to sell their units. Spending $400 on a radar detector is alot, but not neary as much as we spend on tires on these cars annually! Used V1's sell on ebay for up to 80% of their purchase price, depending on model. It can be upgraded, and you can always sell it and recoup most of your initial outlay.

Look at what the other detectors are selling in the used market. There is a reason.

Be safe,

did you read the article? the only thing radartest.com sells is books and information, no detectors or anything. Take a look at the way they test the units and read teh reviews.

I read it. Other tests say otherwise, as with all products. The point here is that "I" feel that the V1 is one of the best out there. The directional arrows are the added feature that make it my personal favorite.

We can all purchase whatever we want, as long as our checks don't bounce. The originator of this post asked "our" collective opinion of the best radar detector. My vote is the V1.

I also feel that the EVO is the best sedan for driving. Many disagree. It's just my opinion based on personal experience. I can drive whatever I want, and I drive an EVO. I can purchase whatever detector I want, and after owning many, I use the V1.

Thanks,

George

out of the battery powered detectors, I've heard some pretty good things. None of them are as good as a good high-end one like a V1 or the 8500 tho

There will be an update January 2005 to address the POP radar detection thing.....it'll meet or beat the rest....Valentine originally worked for Escort and I believe was one of the head designers......if someone makes something that is really better than his detector...he will simply come out with something better. That one link of the radar test bashing the V1 is kinda funny...the chart when they compare features is wrong....to an extent..its true..it doesn;t have Multi-step Dim/Dark Control....its completely automatic and adjusts depending on how much light there is. Then about not having a "City mode"...it has like 3 modes...the one I use is the units "logic" mode....it has some sort of logic circuit that cancels a lot of the BS out. I drive in the city the most out of anything and only get false alarms on the really strong automatic doors.

I still don't really understand what it is about some arrows that helps. I mean, I think if I pull a reading that I'll slow down no matter what, regardless if it's behind me or in front of me. The Valentine one looks like it was pulled out of a Cold War fallout shelter. There are pleanty of reasons to get a X50 over a V1. One of them being that you can set the X50 to display the frequencies, that allows you, in the case of false alerts, to get used to what freq. Safeway for example uses for their door openers.

Bottom line is that they both work very well.

my stereo sticks out about 1/3" from the dash, just enough to hold the cord off too the side, and I can see the clock just fine.

I think th ebest route if you dont want cordes is to go with the solo s2 wireless, its not as powerfull as the 8500 but its rated the third best radar detector.

I have had a V1 in my car for about two years, and it is the best by far in my opinion. I work at a Lexus dealership and i sell probably two a week of them. I have to order direct from V1 thats the only way you can get them. The price seems high but for the performance and arrow indicators you get its worth it. V1 also has the POP mode now that detects POP radar signals. I have been using a new POP programed V1 for about 2 weeks now and just did a trip from Cleveland to Columbia, SC and the POP feature saved me from a cop that was hiding behind trees and was using POP on oncomming cars. I got a few short signals in POP and i knew to slow down. It works great. V1 is a A+++ hope this helps with anyone looking at detectors.
