also, does the car needs to be broken in already? i only have 300 miles so far.
Personally, I feel that cars are about 99% broken in by the time they get to the end user. I would flash/tune the car at you earliest convenience. Just because its flashed doesn't mean that you can't still take it easy on the car for a while if you want.

When removing the fuel cut, you remove a safety feature of the ECU which will take a look at the amount of air your car is pulling in. If your car is pulling in too much air and/or running too much boost, the car will cut the fuel to let you know that there is a problem, and also potentially save your motor. When set up correctly, this can be a very useful feature.

In some instances on EVO 8 and 9 vehicles which are very far from stock, the airflow limit is simply too low and boost cut cannot be avoided. In this instance I would advocate removing the boost cut or 'airflow limit'.

At AMS, we choose to raise the fuel cut to a level that is higher than the operating range of the car, but not totally eliminate it, to insure the most safety for your car.

The rev limit is separate and also adjustable. If you would like to specify your own rev-limit, please do include that information with your ECU when you send it in.

Alot of owners? I don't feel its necessary to generalize the EVO X populous like that. I have not seen this anywhere, although I will admit I don't get to spend very much time on the forums...

I do agree though. Our mail-in tune will extract about 90-95% of the horsepower that a custom tune would, but only on a completely stock, or near stock car. The operating parameters for these cars do not change very much. This is not to say that our mail in flash will not work excellent for cars which currently have ALL of the bolt ons possible. Our flash will still run the car very well, and make horsepower like it should, however there is no substitute for a tuning session with a competent tuner present to dial in the car to the best of its ability.

Now the car has much stronger midrange as well as you can spin the car to 7 and still be making power.

Ive also had the chance to daily drive the car the past 2-3 days and drives/idles like stock. The extra power is well used on the street too. MPGs have been about the same except for the times im enjoying the added power at WOT!

Thanks again Chris and AMS!
Thanks for coming out to our track day! That was a blast... I had fun beating the crap out of my completely stock 07 VW Rabbbit. There wasn't a corner I couldn't make the tires scream for dear life

Glad the flash is working out well and that you are enjoying the car!!!

The mail-n-flash works great and they get it back 2 u quick. If you want more safe power and only short down time send it in, you wont have any regrets.

4myX - Thanks! glad you are happy with the service!!!

Here is something I typed up to answer some of the questions I have been getting on mail-in or 'base' flashes versus a custom flash:

The difference between a Base flash and a Custom flash on your EVO

Base flash has:
-Conservative Fuel mapping that will leave the car on the rich side to be able to accept any anomalies which occur from the factory.
-Conservative Timing mapping to account for the difference in efficiency between the cars as they leave the factory.

Custom flash has:
-Optimized Fuel mapping that will be tested with a wideband on the dyno to insure the proper air/fuel ratio at times in any gear, for any situation. This air/fuel ratio will be leaner and make more power than that of the base flash.
-Optimized ignition timing that will be specific to your car and the specific load that it sees. Each car is a little different in the way that it reads its load and how it is able to handle it. There can be very large variances in cars with the same exact setup.
-Optimized boost mapping.
-As more modifications are added, the need for a custom flash increases in order to get 100% of the available power of your car safely and reliably. Often times, changing a part can not only make your car more efficient and make more horsepower, but it will also change the way that your car reacts in the software and require some re-mapping to get back into the correct operating parameters.

Not trying to generalize at all. I just have yet to get a PM or chat with one person that was for a Mail-in. Im not saying that there isnt people that think they are good. To me it looks like a great product for a particular population. Im going to have to get a mail-in since I have no other option.

One last question. I know we get a little different tune if we use your intake. Will there be further tweaks to the tune if get your Hot Pipe, and Dual Exhaust when it comes out? The Exhuast Looks sooooo swweeeet! Plus, do AMS stickers add any HP

Thx 4myX and GTmotorting for the review it helps to hear good things. It will definitely help me make a good decision.

The hot pipe and dual exhaust are not major tweaks that need to be made. If you are planning on having those installed, I can flash you for them right away, and you will be all set to go, even if you don't install them for a while.

It is a well known fact that the first step to running 10's in an EVO X is to light your car up with some AMS stickers

If we get a mail in flash now, what’s your policy if one day you are in the neighborhood for a custom tune?

As far as warranty work. I can't tell you how your dealer will react. I would assume that it will be no problem, but I can't guarantee anything.

I do have all the updates that the dealer has, typically about 24-48 hours after they are released.
