A lot of people thought the Mustang had to have a 289, then a 302 and now the modular V-8. Those engines evolved to be better. This engine is the next step in the evolution of the lancer. Love it or hate it. It is what it is. I am not planning on buying a car for more than 40 K for a while.

oh i never said it wont be awesome...i just said i would never purchase it...

also...the X is going to be alot more expensive that you think...they already have a replacement for the current evo....its called the lancer GSX that is coming out shortly after the 10 and it will have the same motor as the 10 just not all forged and with a smaller turbo... you will see that the 10 was made to slide into M3 territory and the lancer GSX is for those who are in our price range... so our evos will be kinda in the middle

and btw the ralliart one will be called GSX because supposedly mitsu didnt market ralliart well enough here...

I doubt it, personally. The X will stay under 40K, as it's meant to compete with the STI and the GSX will be aimed at the WRX market. Though the Evo offers a LOT for the price, 40K is my limit and I'll have to choose something else if the X goes over. Maybe I'll get a used '05 STI and use the difference in cost to rebuild the driveline and suspension.

the brand new MR's are 40k what makes you think that a whole revamped evo with new motor and a even more technical drivetrain is gonna cost the same...no way

No, Mistubishi's MSRP starts at 36,924 for the MR. $38,434 as I'd like it.

I agree with Draco, the so called Lancer GSX (2.0l turbo down-tuned Evo engine with a simpler AWD system) will be a match for the current WRX and is not meant to replace the current Evo, add to that the fact that Evo X will have a lot of component/chassis sharing with the new base Lancer and you won't see any difference in price between current Evo and Evo X, the only thing that I see may add price is the navigation system, just like the base Lancer, it's a much better car than the previous generation Lancer but unless you'll add the Rockford system or Navigation it costs about the same as the outgoing generation.

Mitsubishi commited a mistake of selling a $60K car with a release of 3000GT VR-4 Spyder in the 1990s, I don't think they'll make that mistake again and they realize that they can't compete on the same price points with luxury based brands at least not in the current state of affairs.

Where did you get that price? For 39K my local dealershhip offered a brand new modified 340HP Evo MR a while ago, Stock MR costs just a bit over $36K. Just because the AWD system will be better doesn't mean it will be much more expensive (the cost of manufacturing also improves with better technology), look at the auto industry, most of the next generation cars see only slight price increases over the previous generation. The only things that will add price to the Evo X will be navigation system and the DSG tranny, the manual tranny version will be at about the same price point as current Evos.
