Mmmkay. I think there is more grey area between the MR and a "sofa on wheels" that the engineers can achieve with the X and still provide a capable car. You can still go with poly mounts, heim joints and 10kg springs on COs if you want to be "hardcore."

3000ways I agree with you, and I think the new X will be a very cool car, but I also think it is going to be softer. Like you said we don't know the facts yet, but I think it's a fair guess that it will be 200 lbs. heavier, and the suspension will be softer than the current VIII's and IX's. I realize they're trying to broaden the market for the evo, but this could take away some of the evo's current edge. Honda is going to kill the S2000 in 08 or 09, and the talk is that it will be replaced with something more like the solara. That's a shame, because the S2000 is a classic just like our VIII and IX's will become.

Again, having an M3 of an Evo won't suck. It'll just be different. GPTourer, I agree with you, though, how it'd be in Mitsubishi's best interests to offer a RS-type of X to its die hard Evo lovers. This fall will be an interesting time.

uhm the reason for so much hate is the fact the evo is straying from its roots...as a rally bread race machine....its becoming heavier...they are using a new engine with an aluminum bottom end...im pretty sure the cast iron bottom end is stronger.....its becoming a gt car to compete with the g35 not the sti...

Yes, God forbid the evo actually EVOLVES.

its becoming heavier...
Fair enough, no one wants it heavier.

Probably, but will it effect any of us? Doubtful.

When Chevy moved from the LT (iron SBC) to the LS (aluminum SBC), the engine got better. There isn't known issues with the LSx engines being "too weak" because they're aluminum.

its becoming a gt car to compete with the g35 not the sti...
Disagree. Are they classing it up a notch? Sure. But they're trying to shred it's image of an econobox with a nice drivetrain. And it desperately needs the new image.

if mitsu trys to compare the x to the bmw 335xi, I dont think they will win.
bmw 335xi is 300hp and 300 lb*ft of torque! twin turbo (no lag) all wheel drive.
0-60 in 5.2 seconds. Interior rocks with 16 speakers including 2 subwoofers, mp3 player, navigation unit, heated mirrors and seats and a crap load of other stuff and it has bluetooth wireless technology. all for $40,000.
the evo should stick purely with performance around the 33,000 mark. You can quote me on this, they will not win over bmw.

I'm a huge Evo / Mitsu fan and I think if I were in the market for a new car right now I'd get the 335xi. 3 liter inline twin turbo 6... you KNOW that's the winning setup for mods!

The BMW's sound great on paper, but I have heard of more then a few bad engines.

The 1-series promises to be more of an Evo-fighter. There is supposedly going to be a 3.0LTT AWD version.

GPTourer, I wouldn't regard BMW's AWD systems as any threat to the Evo's. Yes, on paper, things look pretty even. Off topic, I found your rolling eyes emoticon and the "Mmmkay" remark to be disrespectful. Let's try to keep it civil, please.
