Why is there so much hate towards the EVO X?
Exactly. It's all about the engine. THis is an engine that many Evo owners have worked on and become familiar with over the last 15+ years. People know what works with it, they know the limits of it, and how to make big power with it. This new engine brings along with it a whole new learning curve that people just don't want to deal with. They're comfortable with the 4g63 and it has been the heart of DSM's and Evos and all their accompanying milestones
I wasn't saying I agree with them. You're right, it's apart of life. I personally love the look of the X, but I did get a IX b/c I've been a fan of DSM's for years and have never owned a 4g63. I was gonna get a project 1g and figured a 4g63 with a warranty was better
Drivers who are out there just for the image have a lot more choices to look at other than Evo in this price range. Lexus, BMW, Audi, etc... all offer cars in the mid 30s that frankly offer more luxury and status than an Evo ever will.
I have been a car nut my entire life and I love the Evo line, but have never been able to afford one. Currently i am finally in the position where i will be able to afford an Evo, so of course i want the best one out there. All speculation ive read in mags says that will be the Evo X. Whether or not this speculation turns out to be true will be determined in 6-7 months. If it does prove true and i do purchase an Evo X, will the current Evo community ostracize me and label me as someone who does not care about performance simply because i own a car that, despite its amazing performance, also carries a nav system? I hope that is not the case.

The 4g63 has been pushed to its limits and really proven itself over the past decade. Today, with a few simple mods you're more or less guaranteed 330whp--and it won't even cost you that much!
I hope someday the same can be said for the X, but again, only time will tell. Even for me, someone that plans to make only modest modifcations, the support of the aftermarket scene and reputation of the engine were two deciding factors when it came to which car to get. I could have waited for the X, but with so many possibilities available for the IX (and the 4g63) how could I say no?
At launch, I think those that have followed the "evolution" of the Evo over the years will continue to choose the 4g63 as the platform to modify, while others will enjoy the stock power of the X right off the lot. As time goes on we'll see more and more of what the new engine can take (and what it can't) and the aftermarket scene will start to grow. It will take time though, and I certainly wouldn't want to be one of the first to find out what not to do lol

Riiight. I understand the need to get me back but you gotta come with something stronger then that.

As for the weight,
A. The bulk of the weight stems from the enhanced safety and strength of the new chassis. The new lancer body is 50% stiffer than the Evo IX.
B. We dont' know for certain that the X will weigh 300lbs heavier. Mitsubishi will not have to add *ANY* chassis stiffening to the X, whereas they had to for the 8 and 9.
C. Mitsu has also stated that they are using a lot of Forged Aluminum parts to keep weight down.
So it's very likely that between not needing stiffening and the increased number of lightweight parts, the weight difference between the X and the '08 Lancer will be much less than the difference between the IX and the lancer it was based on.
I'll be disappointed if the X weighs 3500lbs. I'v eowned a 3500lb car and it felt really heavy. However, a good suspension can make even a 2 ton car feel light, so there's hope that even if the X does weigh that much, it won't feel like it.
I'll just cut to the chase: I don't like you. A little humility goes a long way. However, you could care less how I feel about you, and I you, but there it is. I don't like you. You are a moslty a sensible guy, I admit, but you should keep more of an open mind and not insult people in the process. You can have the last word. I could care less how baseless you want to be. I tried to be nice - still am. I will remain nice.
Cheers!
The 300lb blurb has so many people worked up, and it has so been taken out of context. I'm wondering if it was put out there on purpose to make Subaru think Mitsu was getting sloppy and the car would be a luxo barge as some would make it out to be, that way they won't know what hit them when the X comes out and exceeds everyone's expectations.
I don't play games, nor do I have an ego as big as yours.
Uh, I'll just wait until the thing comes out. To all of those that think the 4B11T will be garbage, Mitsubishi did create the 4G63 so I think they know what they're doing. I think the prudent thing is to reserve all judgment until it's tested.
Mitsu will sell out of Evo's the first year and there won't be enough cars to go around. The base model Lancers & GTS's are already a huge hit, and mitsu is doing great with the new body 08 models.
The internet is full of BS and negativity, so what can you expect but more complaing about the X?

I for one am more interested in the handling and how well the chassis is designed. I mean to be honest, I am not going to modify this car to 800hp. If anything I'll reflash the computer, maybe exhaust intake, that's about it. The engine potential for big hp is not that important.
