Quote: i find it interesting how so many of you are complaining about a car that is priced above 30k to begin with.

like it matters if the car costs 30k, 35k or 40k?

the fact is, you'll spend more than the sticker price if you finance it at less than 0%...which most people will probably do.

i would also argue that you shouldn't even consider buying a new car unless you can afford to put half or more down...and make enough to not worry about the insane depreciation which inevitably happens over the first 3-4 years.
LOL you just alienated 80% of the car buying puplic.. not good business sense...

The interior of the X is much better then the old. But at 40k?
I know that we are paying for the engineering, unibody, TC-SST, but can I get a slightly better interior then that for that cost?

I have the money to get an X but I am a lil worried on features you get for it.

i'm not selling anyone a 30-40k car though.

my point was simple. those complaining about the sticker price will spend 500-600/month on an evo just to have one...despite the fact that its not a good investment.

i just find it ironic...since so many of us spend thousand's of dollars on the car itself, on the insurance (which is extremely high), and on aftermarket modifications.

this is a funny thread. it seems most of the people on this forum are americans.. well I'm not, I live in London uk.. do you guys know how much evos 6,7,8,9's have sold for when new ??? it might make you feel better to know that we pay around £30,000... now thats 30,000 pounds sterling.. roughly $60,000!!! and you guys are all upset that you will pay a little more for the x... lol. man you guys should relax. you guys are getting a good deal compared to us... we do get the FQ's over here, but still that doesn't justify the price difference... I hear in uk all model's are getting the BBS rims, uprated brakes, Bilstein suspension setup, HID headligthts, and maybe leather.... rumour has it we are getting 3 different FQ's variants: 300bhp, 330bhp and 360bhp..... anyhow I don't know of many cars that will provide the same performance, handling etc for the money as an evo.... an evo can stay with lambo's and ferrari's around a track, and they cost like 3 or 4 times as much!!

I lived in England too, bro and you are right, the pound is worth 2x as much as the all might dollar.
But your standards of living is different there too.
But it's def a good point.
I was only 17 years old while I was living there and I was working at the US Embassy in London on diplomatic duties and i was easily making 35k a year.

Don't forget that the US is all about capitalism. Corporate fat bellies thrive on cheap labor. And guess who is the cheap labor? EVERYONE working for the US who is an hourly wage person.
That might be a reason why people are concerned at the price of the X.

Their point was simple as well. Those complaining about the sticker price are probably going to take their money elsewhere, not buy an Evo anyway. Especially with the heavy competition at that price point.

Very rarely can a car ever be considered an investment. On the whole they are depreciating assets.

fair point chino ali... dude i need to get a job in the US embassay if they are paying that much!! I think you might be right about the standard of living. I'm guessing the average person earns more over here and that the car prices are all relative... it is alot of money, I wouldn't be able to buy one st8 up. Maybe half. Still I'm not put off, I'v got my heart set on an evo, my mind has been made up from the first time I sat in my uncles 6 a few years ago... I wana hear how the SST goes next month when our friends in Japan get their hands on it... wonder if its all its cracked up to be

Speak for yourself bro. I'd rather give $1000/per month with NO downpayment then to take my hard earned savings and dump it on a car. It's ALWAYS better to have cash-on-hand for any emergency than to take that cash and put it on a silly car.

YOu would have more money/month for emergencies, if you put down a good chunk rather than paying $1000/month.....

An emergency can easily cost MORE than the small sum per month that you put into it. An emergency fund is for a large sum of money that you couldn't possibly pay for it with your current income minus your bills.

Suppose I have $10k in savings and dumped $8k into a car note. That leaves me with $2k at the present time. So say I get laid off and my unemployment check isn't enough to cover my bills for the month. Guess what? I'm screwed because I would've had $10k to pinch off of. Now I only have $2k to pinch before I'm in desperate need of another job. Keeping your cash FTW!

I never pay the minimum on a car note anyway. It's better to give over the amount and still have some money to save on top of the large emergency fund. That way you cover all areas and you save on interest over the long haul.
