EVO 10 GSR AND MR OPTIONS FOR THE US... not a question, info inside...
wow, I was super jazzed about the X, but if those prices & packages are spot on - I can't see myself ever owning one. While the income level isn't a problem, there is no way I could spend $40k on an Evo when there are so many other attractive options for that kind of money (R32, STi, 128/135, A3, Z370, G8, V8 IS, Mustang, Camaro, etc).
I think the X is a great looking car, but Mitsubishi is pricing themselves out of their market - there are to many sporty yet usable cars, and Mitsubishi doesn't have the reputation for quality or support than many other of these manufacturers do.
Granted, at this point everything is speculation, but these "leaks" are disappointing.
/sigh - will Subaru build a STi sedan?
edit: I just realized that I am lucky. While I was looking forward to the package offered in the X, I have no attachment to Mitsubishi. My first Evo was junk (early 2003 - lots of problems, no warranty/dealer support), but I was willing to give Mitsubishi another chance. But this chance would be based on the coolest car per $$ spent, and at $40k I can't see the Evo competing with the A3 or R32, given Audi's & VW's track record for build quality, interior design, and reliability.
But, I'd have no problem buying another Subaru, Ford, or Pontiac, or buying my first Audi or BWM - I will simply buy the car that I like the best regardless of who makes it.

Here is the real question... when are we honestly going to get some solid info from the dealers?
Every single one I've talked to knows very little if anything about the new Evo X, you think they would have gotten some training or been prepared for people to come in and ask questions. Especially when the car is on the front page of car and driver, motor trend, etc getting pretty good reviews. But it's like they have no clue about anything, and no idea WHEN they will.
Now grantide i've never been so interested in a car's release... but with some showing up in january and this slated for 1Q 2008 you'd think we'd have more concrete info by Mid October only 2 1/2 months or less from these hitting U.S. streets.
This is making it very frustrating for those of us with the cash in hand, who seriously want to buy one, and are being fed very little if nothing at all about the evo x.
I keep getting the generic emails from my dealerships saying 'are you still interested in an evo x? blablablal" i reply: "YES I AM!!!!! remember i'm on your 'call as soon as you get any info so i can preorder one list' and i never hear anything back.
Then if i ask for a free quote on a chevy corvette I get 8 dealerships emailing me 10 times a day asking 50 questions trying to help me find exactly what I want....
Is this what is to be expected from mitsu dealership quality/service? Or do they know that they are only getting such a limited number they really aren't pushing the sales beause they know there is way more demand than supply and people like me are just annoying them....

Why is all this all so hard to believe? How many folks out there have '06 IX MR's?? How many of them are rockin Volks, JDM rears, BRIDE seats, Ti exhausts, cams, DEFI gauges, FMIC and piping w/bov's...some with complete turbo upgrades, full suspension, custome tuning...add all that **** up and the price of the car. Where you at now. EASILY passing the $40k mark. How is this any different.
The difference is about the price of a set of Volks with tires +/-. Just now there are more options to add a lil comfort on base price. Better options. Better AWD system. Better suspension. Better car period.
Why can't people see Mitsu really stepped up their game to remain competitive. Quality is way up folks. Please accept it.
We wouldn't even be discussing this if Mitsu didn't change whats available for options and offer globaly what others manufacturers are offering . Then we would all be here complaining that Mitsu can't even add cruise control. Or a better stereo and nav. Then more sales would be turned in the competitors direction. All because of the more variety and most importantly your right of choice.

While VW does have great interiors, they have a poor reputation for build quality and reliability. VW is consistently in the bottom 5 of all makes sold in the US for reliability. Audi does slightly better, but still can't beat Mitsubishi, which is itself pretty far below the industry average. If those are things I was looking for, I would look elsewhere.

This is what I was referring to. They are the newest JD Power reports. They require buyer responses, so they're not as accurate as they could be, but they're probably at least useful for comparison between brands. Mitsubishi is significantly below average in both.
