Not good news on mitsu future
its all supply and demand... mitsu needs to do some r&d for an econimic car.... make a landmark somewhere... will boost the publics eye... then wont have to worry about all of this...
and can you blame magazines for comparing every mitsu vehicle to the Evo ??
When they test the mazda 6, dont they make comments that its a decent car but "its no MazdaSpeed3"?? and when they test a Pontiac G6, dont they say "why cant this be more like a Pontiac G8??"
if a company makes one great car, and 5 average ones, why wouldnt the independent tester compare these sucky cars to that one great one, saying "hey manufacturer, u found the right formula once, why not do it again ?

Back on topic for those who don't know MMNA is on a stop production right now until the end of March. When they start back up the Galant will be gone for the next two years while the phase the Lancer/EVO out in the US to be replaced by the Galant, and Galant Fortis (AWD Turbo). Sorry EVO lovers but in this economy when you have to cut product the senior vehicle is always gonna win. People by stuff they remember. Besides the Galant being around longer they also feel that there is a bad stigma on the Lancer due to the street racing thing and it is scaring families from buying a family sedan.
On another note I find a lotta of these comments very funny since many magazine's have nothing but rave reviews for the 4G. Even quoted as single handly saving MMNA. Oh and that is a fact based on sales numbers not my or the writers opinion
Have you ever had a DSM side by side with an EVO? The Lancer platform is so much better in quality than the Eclipse that not only is it funny, but hysterically so. And I wouldn't go out of my way to own an EVO.. not a fanboy at all, trust me. Back on topic for those who don't know MMNA is on a stop production right now until the end of March. I mean.. they're expanding the Lancer line with the new hatchback version.. I don't think it's going anywhere.
Also... Galant Fortis IS the Lancer. They still sell the old Lancer in Japan and sell the new one as a "Galant" there (since they don't sell the American Galant at home). They still call the EVO X a Lancer though.

So i know this is an EVO forum and I am about to be pelted with stones, but midlife I am not sure where you have been, but I would take a DSM over an Evo any day.

1. I own both. EVO>DSM. Period.
2. Lancer is not going anywhere.
Its the Galant that is in jeopardy of being discontinued. Most likely the next Galant if there is to be an American version will be built on the Lancer/Outlander GS platform. They are considering building Lancers and Outlanders in Normal because of the greater demand for those vehicles and the fact the plant is losing money with just one shift building Elcipses, Galants and Endeavors. There is talk of bringing the Colt over too. There's also talk of shutting the plant down entirely and going with imported cars only, but with the dollar to yen ratio that probably doesn't make sense at the moment.

dude we can argue here till our fingers are blue. u r a loyal fan of the brand in general, and thats fine by me. some are honda people for life, some are mercedes peopel for life. i am only a fan of great cars, as individuals, not brand names in general. for example - I hate Mercedes in general, yet I own a C36 because its a solid build and the last of the dependable German cars (mine has 200k miles, and still all original internal parts!!!), great performance, and ultra rare (only 286 came to North America in 1997).
and, also, i dont like mitsubishi and the cars they usually make. although they do make some great vehicles from time to time, and i grabbed one of them, the Evo IX.
IMO, Mitsubishi makes poor cars, or at the least cars that are way inferior to most rivals, and that opinion of mine, just happens to be supported by what independent testers and Reviewers say over and over, AND, also by the amount of vehicles the Company actually sells annually - which is a fraction of what most other rival companies sell.

Mitsubishi picked a bad time to start building their reputation here. I've owned 3 lancers (OZ Rally, Ralliart, Evo) and have loved them all to death. I liked those cars so much I decided my next vehicle will be a mitsubishi. Regardless of what reviews say, I know how to determine a good car on my own.
On top of that most cars that are produced today are generally good. Unless there are a few lemons in the bunch. Technology has helped make these cars more dependable and last longer.
Back to ignoring reviews... I think now days the cars are so equal that reviewers have to completely nit-pick to separate the bunch. To the normal "joe", they wouldn't notice these things.
I've raced motocross for 20+ years. Back in the two-stroke days there usually was a lot of difference between the top manufacturers. Now days they are so close it's all preference in how a rider feels on the bike. The reviews between the bikes are so crazy in how they determine a winner. Bike A. is taller than Bike B. and doesn't appeal to riders that are 5'6" as much as bike B. Just stupid comparisons.
Point being, that most cars are good now days. It depends on what the driver is looking for, for appeal. In the long run presence determines more sales than reviews do. The average person doesn't pick up car & driver and determine what they are going to buy next 100% from a review.
i never said i like the X, i said mitsubishi has the "Evo", which is a name. IMO, the X didnt make the giant leap from the IX that it was supposed to. it became slower (significantly slower in a straight line, and barely .02seconds faster at a 4mile racetrack), a lot heavier, and more expensive. And none of the issues of the IX - interior vibrations & noises, and transmission grind were addressed!

I agree about the interior. The lancer (especially evo) looks pieced together. I've spent a good amount of time bringing my interior up to par. Dynomat, carbon fiber, matching color schemes, etc... I feel I one of the nicest interiors in an evo now. I hated it when I first got it and now everything matches.
Ok so here is the proof http://club4g.org/board/other-cars/7...-p-lancer.html
And whoever said there closing MMNA it is only a 3 month stop production it is not being closed just preparing it for more and better production of the Eclipse/Galant Fortis/Endeavor/Sebring/etc etc

TOKYO — Mitsubishi Motors has introduced the oddly named Galant Fortis sedan in the home market. Americans already know this same car as the replacement for the Lancer that went on sale here in March.
All-new sheet metal hasn't given the car much more personality. But in typical Japanese style, the Galant Fortis can be loaded up with goodies, including a navigation system and four-wheel drive. Prices in the domestic market range from $15,350 to $20,950 for the full-boat Galant Fortis Super Exceed Navi.
The car is taller and wider than its predecessor, with more interior space. Mitsubishi says the face of the car represents the new family look that will be seen on future models.
