I seen this question a million times in this thread..
P.S. Can the car really be 300lbs lighter jus cuz they change the roof and some other minor things to light-material things?
I don't see anyway for the car to take off that much weight, not even the MR RS can take off that much from the MR GSR.
In reality it will be more like 40-50lbs.

Here are the specs for the jap version:

Thank you, that 40-50 lbs is actually about right. If someone mentions again that the MR is 300 lbs lighter, I might have to beat someone.

lol instigator... Regardless of the if's/when's, we not-yet evo owners have to ask ourself: Do we buy now and take our chances with the current issues and pay a little less, or do we wait and get a 6speed (which no one seems to like) with ACD and cool lights and possible price markup?

The US will more than likely be getting the RS2 vs. the GSR version of the MR .. ACD only, no AYC. Lets hope they include climate controls, although mitsu tends not to do this in their 'export versions'.

It depends what JDM stuff you're talking about... sometimes it's better, sometimes it's just costly bragging rights .

Anyway, is the MR coming? Seems lass likely now... but I'll tell you, must not be thinking clearly to bring in a stripped down Evo that some want, without making it by order only.

Why would you divert Evos to become RSs instead of MRs when you can have a premium for the later... let alone the swarms dreaming, cash in hands, about owning one.

Sometimes there are things I don't get... either smarter people are involved, or more likely beaurocrats, in making the decisions.

That's life... AND ENOUGH WITH THE BASHING .

Cheers,
g

And is the MR better because of different lights, aluminum roof, ACD (let alone change in suspension and engine, leading to more useable midrange power)?

All depends on the person... for people who don't want to mod, yes. For people who plan on modifying in a couple of yrs, maybe.
Mod or die people, no .

And the 6sp ain't so bad.

cheaper evo > more costly evo

i mean, how many normal wrx's do you see vs. sti's?
It's just good business to start off and see the market for the lower model evo's. If you start off at the top of the line, it'll end up being another Toyota Supra TT/Convertable top 3000gt of the 90's. Sure, everyone wanted the supra to come. But when it came, few were sold, because the only ones that wanted them were poor people.

Besides, turbo cars are old technology, and with the rising gas prices mitsubishi's probably R&D'ing better electric cars. The rest of the world it's like $4.00+ for a gallon of gas. I know in CA, its nearly $3.00 for 91.

I can't believe the lack of logic around here. If a cheaper car is greater/better becuase it is more common. dirt most be the best commodity in the world..

Ponder this, rarity is often more desirable becuase it has capabilities exceeding the common good.

But hey most of the world is dirt and wood, so they must be better than titanium and diamonds.

I'm still waiting to see an electric car... Hybrids still use the oldest internal combustion technology..

Yeah, more WRXs than STis, but the RS is not the WRX. IT's truly a racer. If was with it, the Lancer would be competing with the WRX. All wheel drive it and add a baby turbo. Done.

IS with it. Fortunately, they know they can't build a weak-engined WRX competitor. They build strong engines. The Evo performs in a higher class than the WRX already, and the Lancer is below the WRX. If they build a AWD small-turbo Lancer with 230-ish horsepower for $22-24K, then people will buy it, upgrade the turbo, and end up higher-performing than the Evo. That would screw up their tiered product structure and hurt Evo sales and pricepoint; however, I can see a more powerful Lancer Ralliart with about 200hp NA and AWD being feasible.

Agreed. My old man works for Toyota and he knows the business. Do you know why Toyota is one of the top car manufacters over Mitsu? It's because they know what's hot in America where the money is. Unfortuntely, the bling bling isn't with 4 banger turboed sport compacts. It does have a value in the market, but not very significant overall. The real money is with family sedans/trucks/suv's and currently now, hybrids/electric cars are going more into the market (because of gov tax breaks and funding). Sad but true.

But going back on topic, the MR is one nice piece of ***.

btw, mister2zx3, i was talking about the cheaper car being greater in a business profit sense, not a performance sense
