At least we can be sure the MR won't be a MY04.

On a serious note now, do you guys think that the MR would make it here with all the problems that mitsu is having. If not what other cars do you guys have in mind besides the Evo. Me personally if the MR does not come I will not get an Evo. I will probably wait for the Skyline. May not have the razor sharp turning as the Evo but it is a BEAST

Well, the MR has to appear on the dealer's lot by December 27th. Otherwise it's a no-go on another Mitsu.

Top alternative right now is an 04/05 S2000, with a hardtop. Considering I can get an unmolested one fresh off the truck for $30,295 (hardtop extra, bleh), I'm not exactly considering this to be a bad thing. I'd love to see a coupe though, just so I at least have a choice.

Two billion to just keep them afloat. Its amazing how someone can trivialize such a substantial amount of money. Maybe you can let us in on what the proposed 7 billion dollars worth of DC money would have done and how efective it would have been with DCX leadership? Perhaps if there is different leadership more can be done with less? Do any of us have all the answers to make these kinds of statements? And if you do, please enlighten me.

DCX isn't pulling out, and the platform sharing will continue. That means the Dakota based truck next year and possible minivan in the future. Chrysler gets to use the Lancer platform for the next Neon and PT Cruiser.

So the current lineup will still be fortified. The new Galant, the new Endeavor, and next year's new Eclipse. Plus the upcoming MR, and the truck after that. Hardly a stagnant lineup. But what do I know.

On another note, I think its funny now that we're pretty sure the MR is coming how many people are saying oh the 5speed is fine, you don't need ACD this and that. When all the pre-Evo discussion and STi comparisons were just the opposite.
People complaining about the name change to "RR" or whatever when JDM emblems are bought and sold all the time. But the whole backlash by current owners actually opposed to the car getting better so soon so quickly truly caught me off guard. I mean the car is called an Evolution for goodness sake, it had to happen.

But I guess that is what new car forums are all about. In about 5-10 years when there are no more Evos being produced and all the rich kids have moved on to the next newest me-too fad car over at GTR-R35.com or 5000GT.net (taking the jock riding fan boys and techmaster naysayers with them, hopefully) and all the hard core tuners who couldn't afford to be the First! start picking up their Evos second and third hand, then the real hardcore tuning and informational threads will be more common.

Heh, that's a pretty blanket statement. On what grounds do you make those judgments? Just because people decide to buy a car when its new, does not make them any less qualified to be involved in " real hardcore tuning." You make it sound as if the people who own Evo's now are rich people who don't know a thing about the Evo, and that we are simply owners with a one track mentality.

I don't think you could have sounded any more ignorant with a statement like that.

Actually in general most owners don't turn their own wrenches, know how to tune a car, how to swap a cam, etc. It is a common "generality" in life. Most immiediate buyers of new ohh ahh items do so for peer acceptance, not for any knowledge or interest in it's inner workings or capabilities. Nothing really wrong with that.. But becuase most are that way, doesn't mean many aren't knowledgable and capable of tuning on their Evos.

As for Mitsu going away and the MR not coming.. It's a defense mechanism. As for no "official" announcement it's mitsu's business need to sell 03s and 04s. As if all magazines stating the 05 MR is coming isn't enough..

I agree. But I suppose that the old saying: "seeing is believing" still holds true for some. Although personally, I am more inclined to say denial brought about by envy is a powerful very thing.

That's not what I said at all. I want an Evo too, and I want to buy it brand new. There are many people who own the cars who either want to know more about it and are interested in tuning, and some will and some won't. Some will keep the cars completely stock or do a few mods. That's cool. Some will go ballz out and that's cool too. Others may want too, but won't because of money, wanting to keep their warrentee or just aren't capable - but they might still like to read about it.

The stuff I'm referring is the fence sitters who throw stones because Brand X did this, or Brand Y did that and have no intentions of ever doing anything but stirring up **** on a forum. There are also all the warrantee threads that would go away in 5 years or so that go like "I beat on my car and it broke so somebody else should pay." OR "I dumped five grand on my/my dad's/my stolen credit card and the car is a science project out of control and dealer X sucks cause they won't fix it - or I'm only running 13's so Evos suck and such and such's car did that."

Since you don't fall in those categories you shouldn't be offended, right?

Take a trip on over to the dsm, supra or rx-7 boards and you'll see what I mean.

Automobile, June 2004, Page 17 says Mitsubishi announced the MR for under $35k on sale this fall at the New York Autoshow. They say no car was on display though.

Is this enough proof *YET*? Geez.

That's funny because I went to the Autoshow and no one seemed to know anything about the MR or the release date for that matter. Now I am not saying that you're wrong, but female sales-rep said that because the RS is being released soon, the MR will not be out until next year. Again this is just what I heard so it's not in concrete.

I haven't seen anyone in quite some time etching words in concrete or stone, but the above is in ink, in the latest issue. FWIW, check it out..

I just don't think that the MR would make it here by the fall with all this financial problem that Mitsu is having. And I also don't think that they want to cripple the potential sales of the RS by releasing the MR in the same year. It just doesn't seem logical but then again who knows. The way Mitsu does business anything is possible

Everyone always talks about the financial troubles of mitsubishi being the reason they wouldnt bring over the MR. Does everybody but me have an insider in the company funneling them information? I think that the company brought the Evo over to the US to make a few bucks off of us power hungry Americans, and now that they see the Evo is a big hit, as well as the STi, they should want to bring over an even more powerful version to make even more money. If they are running out of money, I would say they would extend their bounds to make more instead of restricting car sales and choking their income. Not selling more cars doesnt help their financial situation at all.

Evo = not a profit turner.

Especially with all the warranty claims that are being filed. Halo cars, rarely, if ever, are the cars that are making money for the company. As someone mentioned before, halo cars usually get the ax before any other car in the company's lineup.

Who is your insider that tells you the Evo is not a "profit turner"?

I bet it's profit is higher then on the bas model lancer. I bet they are able to make em for about $24k and that leaves about $3k to invoice. With some other incenetives, some dealers may only pay $26k. But anywho, what is the loss on the Evo anyways, let us know..
