If they are running out of money, I would say they would extend their bounds to make more instead of restricting car sales and choking their income. Not selling more cars doesnt help their financial situation at all.
WHAT IF they bring the MR over and it doesn't sell like they thought it would....then what. Who is going to bail them out of that.
The Evo is a niche car and alot of that "niche" is already taken up with the current owners. Of course there is room for more buyers but releasing the MR might only grab the handful of prospecting buyers left. Then they are going to have a $hitload of MR's on their lots like the 03's.
And also the number of 03 owners that will trade in for the MR will not be alot. So Mitsu has alot to think about.
I still don't get where the "$hitload of '03's" that are supposedly lingering on dealer lots are. All I see in CA is a $hitload of EVOs being sold. In fact, the dealers out here can't get enough of them, many are having them trucked in from other states, and it still isn't enough.
I dunno, since the resale value of an evo is pretty high and from what i've heard around this forum, i can see a lot of these people tradin their car in for an MR. Also, they dont need to send over 10,000 MR's, they can start out limited edition (hopefully not inducing huge dealer markups) and sell a thousand or two before they see whats up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if all the magazines were right about the MR. I'll buy one, thats for sure.

It's not selling horribly, so to speak, but it's not selling like hotcakes either.
Same thing here in So. Maryland. My mitsubishi dealer has had a BBY evo on the lot since the day it came out, they just can't seem to sell it but everytime i go look at it, they try so hard to get me to buy it even though im 18 and have no money. I think its becuase it doesnt have a sunroof
The Evo MR is considered the 8.5. All 2005's will be MRs in the U.S. and overseas. Plain and simple. They will no longer be producing Evos with KYB struts and steel roofs. It's not a special edition in Japan and they don't sell any other Evos alongside the MR in Japan. Every model is an MR. Whether it's a GSR/ RS 6 speed or RS 5 speed. They are all MR. If Mitsu does bring a 2005 model, it will be an MR and will be the only model offered with the possibility of continuing an RS model, but that will most likely have the ACD, Alum roof and bilstien suspension.
FYI, there are still at least 10 03's that I know of at dealers in MN. I just purchased a 03' last night for 21k even from a private party. It was loaded with sunroof, ex warranty, gauge package, strut bars front and rear etc.. it had 10k for miles. He showed me the sticker, 980.00 for the warranty + the acc and it totaled 34k. So he drove it for under a year and took a 14k hit! hmm....................... the morale of the story is be patient and use the internet and you will ALWAYS find what you are looking for at the price you want. I have done it for years. There are always people with more money than us that are willing to take a hit-
