New sketch for the 2012 Evolution
I think it looks like an acura in the sketch. As far as switchig to a diesel im about 50/50 on that. But, I love my 4g63 so I guess I will just keep my VIII forever. We will just have to see what the future really brings for the evo.
I think they are just trying to crossover into a different market since Evos and Subbies are a niche market car.
future evos
@Boltz.
In my original post I meant as the only attribute of the evo that I'd personally compare to the german cars is the price. If mitsubishi can't vastly improve the car with raising the price to the mid forties than I think they should just quit now. I wouldn't think the evo anytime soon would be able to match the germans in build quality. So in my mind it better be substantially less money. A 300hp diesel powered evo with a nicer interior or a 300hp bmw both for 45K, I'd go with the beamer any day of the week. But a mid 12 sec qtr mile, ~3:00min around VIR evo for around 45K would peak my interest.
I'm hoping for a leap in performance like the Mustang GT made from the '10 model year to the '11. Redoing the whole car for slight improvements aren't going to get the job done. If it doesn't happen I have no problem waiting until my salary increases to the point where i can start shopping for an M3.

That oil change BS alone -- what's with not having a drain plug!?! And have you turned a wrench in the M3 engine compartment? No fun, hasn't been since they introduced the e46. Drivers' cars, yeah, M3 is bad a$$ for a while. Just don't use it up.
EDIT: And a simple TBE mod, one day job, a $1500 upgrade, gave me nuff power that novice-to-novice, session to session, my first HPDE found myself lapping an 08 M3, he couldn't say the same, no matter how bad my driving became with my relaxing from time to time. I was $30,000 under his buying costs, and I bet you a bunch of dough that car has cost a lot more than my last 2 1/2 years and 50k miles. And the M's are everywhere. I like the obscurity just fine.

When is the time to worry
It won't be til about 2015 that I get concerned if Mitsubishi isn't releasing awesome nuggets of R&D and concept car goodies. That gives them 3 years to productionize something, about what they spent on the X. I figure the time from '10-'15 is f off time for their product guys (hire new young ones, promote the good existing ones, let the old farts retire), while their engineers drive their X's around the parking lot and scream hysterically as they pull .99g's around their bosses cars. They'll sober up probably this year sometime, as long as they don't get huge pay raises that let them mod their own Evo X's up -- then they'll be screwing around for another couple of years in euphoria and get behind the long term schedule.
