Confirmed by Mitsubishi high offical: Lancer Evolution is no more
EDIT: And I'll say that they only sacrificed the performance in the 3G Eclipse. They sold more 3G Eclipse than the 1G and 2G combined. But, they targeted it at a different, more mainstream buyer. The Evo was meant for the more die-hard car guys that were buying the 1G and 2G.

Well i don't know how true this is but i found this page on the next evo XI an how it will be diesel- hibird here is the link http://green.autoblog.com/2010/06/11...-hybrid-beast/
oh i also found this site too http://www.worldcarfans.com/11006112...ubishi-evo-and so if this is the rout they are going it will be nice
That was 100% the reason. I worked for Mitsu's advertising agency back when the Eclipse 3G was launched and also worked on the launch of the Evo VIII. Your reasoning above is exactly what happened. It's what they had to do to convince the bean counters to accept bringing the Evo to the states. They had to sacrifice one (Eclipse) to let another live (Evo).

The most buyer who bought Evos in the past and now is a motor sport fan , and that has nothing to do with a 1G or 2G . Those cars made for a different purpose. More general car enthusiast.
The EVo is made for rally first and for most, and for rally fans in mind , period. Number one proof is the build of the Evo ergo Homologation document for the Evo , based on FIA rally rules for rally.
There is not one line there mention the public needs.... Sure they put extra things in to it, for different reasons. Like required safety rules for public roads, without those you wouldn't able to drive it on the street or some comfort features. But end of the day is a dressed rally car.
And has nothing to do the other car type of buyers in mind., nevertheless dumbing down the Eclipse... The Eclipse was never an issue for Evolution sales. Apples and oranges.
I dont know what they feed you ion the Mitsubishi HQ, but that is a BS.
There is not one guy i know out side of the US who ever bought the Eclipse because they thought they are a rival cars... And just to put clear water in the glass, the EVo primary market is far from the US. Clearly shows the first line up been sold here. The 8-9. It is clearly frightens me , how much is STILL misunderstand or misinformed people about the EVO after 8 years....
i think the only thing they had to convinced the "been counters " is the price to sell vs other countries.... LOL

Rob, there are so many things wrong in your statement. I'll leave it at that. Anything more will take the thread off topic.

the X haters will go the same way the VII haters went...
they will get old and realise they dont want a bone jarring ride... then upgrade to something nicer...
Sure the X isn't as raw as the IX, but its lived up to its name... in that it has evolved...

I'm sure there will be an equal amount of hate for Evo XII (when I reckon they will do the platform change to diesel hybrid)
"haha an evo that weighs 2tonne" they will say...
