2014 Lancer Evolution
Let's say you were in charge of designing the engine for the next generation Evolution. The engine must adhere to current emissions regulations and it should have similar driveability to the current engine, however the technologies/parts can be as exotic (albeit possible and real) as you would like. Also, in this assignment, do not bother with any worries of infringement of patents.
To start, what about including:
moving to a small displacement (3 or fewer liters) flat six like many Porsche boxers,
square or oversquare
titanium rotating parts,
dry sump lubrication,
variable vane geometry turbo used in the 997 Porsche Turbo models,
air to water intercooler like in the F10 BMW M5,
a billet block like AMS is developing for a Nissan GTR engine program,
direct injection and port injection like in Toyota's D-4S,
exhaust system like the one Pagani uses,
individual thorttle bodies,
continuously variable intake manifold with an adjustable plenum,
plasma coated cylinder sleeves

I'd love to buy that from
They have some of the best engineers for technology in the world. Their performance engineers are great, but their industrial engineers are even better. I'd feel more comfortable buying such a new technology from a large corp than an only car company.

Should talk to some GTR owners about their experiences with Nissan and warranty. About the same issues, obviously magnified as their parts are much more expensive (~$20k for rear diff replacement, ~$20k for transmission replacement, etc).
I'm willing to accept the fact that I'm a minority in this. But within that price range, there isn't many options. Once I'm in GT-R territory, then the argument changes. And again, this all is determined by performance. If the performance isn't there, then I'm out as well.
^I'm with ya on this.
I, for one, have had absolutely zero warranty-claim related problems on either my IX or X; Mitsu has done me right and stood behind the cars 100%. I think people just love to cause a stink when they try to pull the wool over Mitsu's eyes and get caught.

Anybody hear any news on the 2014 Evo X?? This whole discussion is great and all but I want to know if anybody is hearing things from their dealers about a '14 X like tristang and my dealership are reporting.

You must have a diamond in the rough dealer. All dealers that were close to me now 4 have all since been boarded up. Good Riddance IMO

Not my case at all bought my evo knowing damn well it would never go to the dealer for anything (They did replace a wing for me back in 05 after a month of back and forth and having to have a regional rep come inspect the wing) Really??? Hell in three dealers I was absolutely discussed by sales folks. I said **** it and bought used.

achilles tendon. Some are really good, some are "ok" some are horrible. IMO, the horrible ones have since boarded up as you say. Supposedly the dealerships are what will be getting rebranding attention in 2013 and on. We'll see. -----
Back on topic, so any new info on the 2014 X? Wouldn't mind seeing a front / rear bumper update. Perhaps updates to the foglights to allow for more airflow / ditch the stupid driver side plastic?
Well they are going back with a vengeance. They recently announced a big boost to their advertising budget and are gong to return to network TV, and then work on the dealer network. Good times ahead.
