The story is gaining impetus. Autoblog has a story on its website that sources Autocar regarding the 500 hp Evo. Seems that the MiEV used at Pikes Peak was testing out the electric motors for the upcoming Evo. http://green.autoblog.com/2013/07/24...er-hybrid-evo/

If the evo get 500 hp that means the GTR will be like 1000hp factory stock exhaust

I really do hope it happens but I have serious doubt that it will

Lmao. This is the funniest comment I've seen in awhile. A stock turbo IX wouldn't even take the 2008 GT-R. Anything after that and it's a walk in the park for a gt-r.

It just would not make sense with their current line up.

And this is their "next" car:

I don't see it happening.

Given that the current GTR is around 550hp (maybe more? ) there is a good chance that is true. I'd say Mitsi are planning on having points of difference. Smaller capacity engine and hybrid and associated MPGs and what not. Four door? Probably not but I hope so.

TBH it probably doesn't need to outrun the GTR, it might only need to be a half decent euro fighter. Then loyalists/fanboys/whateveryouwanttocallthem will have something to move on to when they can afford more.

Out of interest, what does a new GTR cost stateside?

Hmmm... the story is actually really posted at Autocar's website:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...-500bhp-hybrid

And the picture appears to be that of a revamped Concept-RA concept rendering...

If they ever made a 500hp EVO, how many would like to pay for a price tag of $70k++?

Add in Triton concept that is diesel-hybrid and fact that Pajero/Triton will be around 2015. Galant that faded away and coupe lacking.
I seriously think that Mitsubishi made Ralliart Lancer trim for a reason and thats probably to fill in this spot that will be vacant with EVO X departure to another world.

Brother, first off. I love my 03 with front+rear LSD mech diffs, open center diff no ACD no AYC plain old 5sp. It is awesome and makes me super happy and I can service everything myself.

Still, speed sensors in each wheel talk to the ABS controller to keep it all legit with the AWD system, technology developed on the Porsche 959 and brought to market in 1989 in the 911 c4 with a 90k+ price tag. These machines had lateral and longitudinal locks to translate power from fron/back and left to right. Super complicated, expensive and awesome. Mechanically, the weak link in getting power from an internal combustion engine to 4 wheels are the clutches, diffs and gears that are all subjected to stress, friction and wear. From a logic standpoint (controlling individual wheel speeds) you need computer controlled electro-mechanical systems that open or close clutches depending on sensor feedback (AYC, ACD). These often include hydraulics or servo motors. All will wear, break add complexity, cost and maintenance issues.

I have two points from the above I'm trying to make:
1. Your, (+my) beloved 03 evo is a fiendishly complicated machine already relative to anything with an v8, rear wheel drive an a carb.

2.Electric drive is an order of magnitude less complicated and has less stress and wear parts, especially in an AWD car that you can skip the drive shaft, transfer case center + rear diffs. All the awesome of AWD + mechanically simpler drivetrain, more torque (not drivetrain limited) and seamless non-mechanical (no friction or wear) torque vectoring from front/back/side/side depending on configuration.

If you like torque at low RPM or have ever taken a ride in a Mitsubishi elevator or train I think you should reserve your pessimism until they hopefully build it. Best get over it now because in ten years they (cars) will all be ALL electric

Batteries and charging infrastructure are still the problem thus the hybrid part were most of the cost and complexity resides, but this is short term, fear not has their **** together with electrics probably better than conventional drivetrains.

Yeah, who doesn't want more power but with that kind of engine, it will be a lot more complicated when it comes to tuning and maintenance plus the MSRP of this car would be at least between 50k and 70k dollars.

I'm boycotting this car.... Kill it with fire! I don't care how much horsepower it will make from the factory. I accepted the evo X but I won't accept whatever this will be. If you want 500hp from the factory go buy a non hybrid japanese awd GTR!

Im in for this car. We built a electric vw in HS. I thought it was lame until i drove it. The electric motors planted you back in the seat. Acceleration was silly, this was in 1990. Many things have greatly improved since then.
